Because the People of the United States will defend what they hold as sacred to them. And the vast majority of Americans claim to be Christian, Catholic, or of some other religion which clearly states that being gay is against God's will.
And if you are going for "the separation of church and state" because this is a religious ceremony with historical religious significance... brush up on what the separation of church and states actually means. Read what it was intended to do and why it was writen.

Nothing about marriage is taught in schools. Dont believe the lies the the LDS and KOC are using to try tell us californins how to live our lives. They dont live here, they dont vote here, we dont want their hatred and bigotry in our states, and we dont want them using children to lie to us to force their extremest right wing religious bull**** on us.

They are opporessed more, unlike a girlfriend/boyfriend, they do not have the ability to get married and recieve the legal and tax benefits afforded to the boyfriend/girlfriend if they so choose to get married.

I agree, I won't get too into details about how I feel about gays & lesbians but I don't care for them very much, I don't think it's right and they definitely should not be allowed to get married, It's just wrong! They definitely should not be allowed to raise children either.

If you are going to quote the bible do not do so selectively, there are plenty of passages where god condones homsexuality, if not even outright endorseing it. If you are going to take the word of the bible as a guide as to how to live your life then you better accumulate several more wives, some slaves and start farming. The bible is a book of stories intended to be interpreted as to how to lead a righteous life, the words have been twisted and tainted to promote the message of bigots, which is exactly what god and the bible are intended to be against. Hide behind the veil of religion if you so choose but that doesn't make your beliefs any less hateful or bigoted.

From the California Department of Education's website:
http://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/he/se/sexeducation.asp
Is that evidence enough Greg?

It's not the fact that they will be teaching tolerance and respect like you would like to think. Schools have been teaching that for a long time now and have my full support. It's that they will teach that gay marriage is normal and right when the majority of Californians and Americans do not believe that's true.
I'm all for schools teaching students to respect gays, gay couples, gay unions, and their right to choose such a lifestyle. However, I'm not okay with them teaching that gays can marry or that it is normal or right. I don't want my children being taught one thing Sunday and something different Monday through Friday.

You're right that it says that marriage doesn't need to be taught, but then says that if it sex ed is taught (which 96% of schools choose to do) that marriage must be taught. Therefore, the end result is that 96% of California schools teach marriage because they teach sex ed.
And to be fair, gay marriage would have to be acknowledge and upon acknowledging gay unions as marriage, our kids will be led to the conclusion that it's okay for gay couples to marry like traditional couples.

You are right, I don't have the right to impose my beliefs on you. But I do have the right to vote for what I beleive is right and discuss it.
That's why marriage shouldn't be related to government in the first place. It is as it always has been, a religious ceremony.
But Americans decided that they wanted it taught in school, which is why it is taught in school. If you don't want it to be, start a movement to remove tradtitional marriage from sex ed.
As for the other part of the education code, I read it and acknowleged it as well. I think that part is great.
I'm no homophob so there is no
factor in any of this for me. I'm not here to judge them and I really don't care what they do in public or behind closed doors.
I'm voting to keep marriage as it has been defined for the past 2,000+ years. And just because something has been done for a long time does not mean that it is right, but marriage was created as between a man and a woman and the world has naturally continued this tradition and stood by it's meaning since the begining of time.
