That is all.
I want mormons to be able to have 6 wives and marry minors if they want. As well as people to be able to marry animals if they feel inclined. Just like gay couples argue... "you don't have the right to tell someone who they can or cannot marry."

Come on guys use logic. Gays can have the same rights as married couples, but it's called a UNION. Marriage stems from religion and has been defined as between a man and woman for 4000 years.

What if I want to call myself Asian or Black for that matter. Who's to tell me what I can call myself??

Prop 8 WILL pass. People don't want thier kids taught that gay marriage is right in our public schools. Just like in MA and at that SF teacher's wedding bs.

Definitions shouldn't be changed based on an emotional argument. Use some logic.

What rights are you talking about?

There is no right to marriage.
+1 Paul

It's like people feeling entitled to happiness... We have the RIGHT to PURSUE happiness...NOT the right to happiness.

The sense of entitlement in this country is gross.

Because the People of the United States will defend what they hold as sacred to them. And the vast majority of Americans claim to be Christian, Catholic, or of some other religion which clearly states that being gay is against God's will.

And if you are going for "the separation of church and state" because this is a religious ceremony with historical religious significance... brush up on what the separation of church and states actually means. Read what it was intended to do and why it was writen.

Guys, please. The slippery slope argument is a logical fallacy. You can't assume A leads to B, C then D.

You can't tell your opponent what they think, and them blast them for it. I know that's how politicians debate these days, but real debaters will shy away from such weak arguments.

I've taken my comms classes and argumentation and understand what you are saying.

I do realize that this statement about leading to A, B, then C is just an emotional response which even if likely to happen as a result is not needed to win the argument.

Marriage = Man and Women
Gay = Man and Man or Women and Women
Therefore Marriage doesn't = Man and Man or Women and Women

I think this is mostly about semantics... Obviously it's the term "marriage" that many proponents of Prop 8 are hung up on. Maybe they should just call it civil unions or something similar, and take the whole marriage thing out of the wording, since it seems to have too many religious implications. Religion has no place in politics/government IMHO. What matters is that gay and lesbian couples are awarded the same rights and benefits as married heterosexual couples, and that the institution is recognized as such by the government. Let the individual couples decide how much, if any, religious significance they want to incorporate with their marriage/union.

I would also vote NO on prop 8. I think it's important for kids to learn about this issue and finally change the views of ignorant people. We all have our "beliefs" based on how we were brought up and taught. So there is no right or wrong answers, just how we learned things through our experience. That's how religious extremist in other parts of the world think whatever they do is right. We have to accept that there is no ultimate truth, but only what's in our mind. If this measure passes, we'll be giving kids a choice to what they want to learn and accept. I grew up in a catholic school, but I choose to hate Christian for their ignorance and blindly following what they were told without questioning or thinking about it. Lastly..

Why are people who even vote on this issue feel that they are so important and above others, and with their god damned self righteousness to TELL another human being what they can or can't do. I don't get the whole gay "issue". There IS not issue, people should stop thinking they are above others to treat these people as 2nd class human beings. They did not choose this way of life. I've known a few gay people, and I even heard from a gay teacher that yes, he would LOVE to be straight, to get married, to have HIS own kids, a family, but life isn't fair to them, why make it worse. There are scientific evidence that gays have a different physiological make up than straight people. I wouldn't be surprised that homosexuality is a genetic mutation.

And the world "marriage"...it's just a word. Think about how it come to be, and how word's meaning can change over time. I think those who use it as an argument only does it for the sake of argument. It's a WORD that shouldn't change people's livelihood.

It's totally a legal thing when it comes to property and taxes... So the "not legal" argument is stupid.
