The Official Bay Area Beer Thread
Right on, well my plan is to be there so there's that. Maybe we can get some other to show as well and score a seating area. I may have a couple spare pint glasses to save some bux.

Where can one get some Yuengling around here?? I had lots during a trip to the East Coast a while back, but doesn't seem like anywhere locally carries it.

I'm now a fan of Napa Smith Brewery - they make some pretty good stuff! Have to plug my local as well, seriously Pudley's in San Carlos is so much fun. The last two "meet the brewers" pint nights I have walked away with 12 pint glasses (yes 12) 2 shirts, 2 bottle openers and 1 hat. When Coney Island came I drank so much beer I won all the prizes. This time they gave me a hat when I walked in and asked me to leave some for the other folks. Ha!

The Brewing Network is putting on a Winter Brews Fest on Jan 30th over in Oakland with a bunch of different breweries. Just an FYI for anyone interested. Here's the IIPA recipe, I might drop the 5 minute Chinook addition based on how you described them. Not sure if I'm going to call it "Apathy IIPA" since you just wont care about anything else going on around you after a few, or hellPA[/FONT] (hell IIPA).

How about Imperial Apathy? Haha... It will bring your apathy to Imperial levels! That recipe looks awesome. If I can offer any advice, do a blowoff from the get-go because that malt profile will get so violent it will try to escape. Also, you will want to age this in the bottle for at least a month if not two to three if possible. A longer secondary ferment can take some of this time if it's at a controlled temperature, and will also help clear it out a little. The beers that I leave longer in the secondary always come out clearer. I definitely want to try some. I feel like I should lay down a tarp, and place a chair in the middle first so I can be prepared when it blows my face off!!

Jacob, if you haven't tried this yet, I may have found your next favorite IPA.
Karl Strauss's Tower 10 IPA
You can find it at my local BevMo
Karl Strauss's Tower 10 IPA
Tower 10 IPA boasts hops from beginning to end, and everywhere in between. We fill the brew kettle to the brim with assertive Chinook hops, giving the beer its intense grapefruit and pine flavors that linger through its dry finish. After fermentation, we dry hop with a blend of Cascade and Centennial hops for a floral citrus aroma. A touch of lightly kilned caramel malts make Tower 10 a well balanced, full flavored IPA.
OH MAH GAWD. Gonna make a trip to get one today. I have to take my little monster to the vet today and it's on Lawrence. Thanks for the tip!! BTW that description matches what I have heard of Chinook - grapefruit citrus flavors. So NOMMY. Chinook + Cascade = YAY!

So, I need some advice on good maibocks to try. I figured out that this is what Dead Guy Ale is (by "figured out" I mean I read it on their website) which surprised me since bocks are lagers. Anywho, since the style is maltier in general it'll work great for my pizza crust recipe. I picked up the Gordon Biersch Winter Bock, but that obviously isn't available year round. I also want to try making a maibock, so I need to research the style more

BTW the Tower 10 is very nice!! Thanks for the tip. I also went back for another bottle of the Sculpin IPA from Ballast Point but they didn't have anymore - all gone. Their regular IPA is good, but not like the Sculpin.
