There are some small, but significant differences. The original CAR stock is about .5" shorter. The shorter LOP makes a noticeable difference when shouldering your carbine while wearing gear. It's also lighter than a Type 2 M4 stock.

I'm building a lightweight carbine (lightweight barrel, CF handguard, etc) and every oz. matters.

Lightweight barrel as in a pencil barrel?

.5" matters on an adjustable stock? Meaning you are fully extended or collapsed then?

Sounds like you want something like the Ace ARFX, but LOP isn't exactly adjustable.

Or the crazy Ultra Lite

Magpul MOE is relatively light and adjustable, but I am not crazy about it.

Here is another option...Mission First Tactical Battlelink Minimalist Stock (BMS - BATTLELINK). They claim it is the lightest adjustable stock on the market (5.8 oz) I am thinking of picking it up...The YouTube video review is

I run my stock fully collapsed. And .5" does make a difference when shooting in unconventional positions with a plate carrier on.

There's a reason why guys like Kyle Defoor, who have access to any piece of AR furniture available to them, still choose to run the old school CAR stock.

Correct. A cold hammer forged pencil barrel to be exact.

I really would like an AR pistol.

12 inch barrel and no stock just foam over the buffer tube. Saw a guy rock in one pressed up to his face. Was nailing **** pretty effortlessly. I love tin can with my AR and a bipod tho. Sweep back and fourth to dispatch the enemy.

Some awesome stuff in here. I really wish I could put something together. By the time I am able, it will probably be illegal to think about it.

My first AR is almost done. Everything should be in by next week. Went with a basic/workhorse setup:

Spikes lower
PSA LBK
Magpul MOE+ grip & CTR stock & handguard & rear MBUS
PSA 16" CHF middy upper
BCM MOD4 charging handle
Wilson Combat BCG

How'd I do?

So is this CA being called out for being stupid, or, is this a new trend? I wonder if this sort of thing is intended for all weapons or just hand guns.

This interests me! I was watching a video on YT on this. Apparently you dont have to register it. They said you can use a drill press haha

I am thinking of getting a gun to go target shooting, not really home defense. Where should I go to read stuff I need to know?

Yes cars and guns the best combo. The 80% are best done on a mill and there are some places that let you use one for a fee with all the templates. You don't have to register it but you are supposed to stamp your drivers license number on it. But your only allowed to build one gun a year. Depending on where you live the best thing to do is go to a gun shop and ask questions. Better do it quick though commiefornia is about to take away the guns.
