Ahaha yes...that's what I wrote at the last part of my post. I'm just as screwed as you all are. And I'm planning to write a long email to "those who represent the citizens of California" also.

Any thoughts between a Bushmaster XM15 M4A3 vs Sig Sauer M400?

^Awesome! What upper are you running?

I'm planning on building an AR pistol down the road but I think I might go with a 10.5" over the 7.5" for reliability sake.

Out of those 2 choices, I would go with the SIG. I actually like the features on the M400's lower.

Shrubmasters are known for having problems right out of the box. I would steer clear of those.

A Colt 6920 beats both, as it is still the gold standard of M4 pattern AR15's.

it's one I assembled from an aero precision stripped upper, surplusammo barrel, noveske kx3, parallax tactical FA bcg, no-name free float rail, magpul buis, and a pistol length gas system. I put it together but wasn't 100% confident, so I sent the upper to Dustin at CIVTAC for blueprinting and assembly. He also swaged the gas port a bit smaller on the barrel so it is not overgassed. reliability? runs fine, uses a carbine spring and buffer, and it prefers 55gr FMJ. no problems. I may pursue a 1:7 twist barrel at some point so the bullet gets a full twist before it leaves the muzzle, but for now I am happy. I cannot recommend Dustin highly enough - great comms, super quick turnaround, and very clean work.

next build is a heavy barrel 20" super varminter. I will be giving CIVTAC my business again to make a custom barrel and put together the upper using parts I already have.
