Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

i wouldn't mind doing an all N/A build on the 2.5i but just thinking what is needed to break 220whp is just sickening in all honesty...

port and polish, 12:1 cr forged pistons, new cams (which i don't think anyone makes AVCS cams yet), headers, header-back exhaust, intake, EM, try and lighten the drivetrain...

what i wanna know is if you bought 8.5:1 or 9:1 cr forged pistons could you bolt on the STi DOHC heads and run a turbo? or would leaving it SOHC be better?

get a STi block, and bolt on your SOHC heads to it, then turbo it [if your gona build it, stroke it to 2.6L, then turbo the bad boy, you'll be in the 300hp range]

no point in dropping more money to stroke the 2.5L to a 2.6L...but yes doing a frankenmotor is the way to go...STi short block with slightly better internals and use the SOHC head means less ECU headache...and a car that can flow air very nicely

Don't worry, they're in my garage waiting for the dry summer weather to come out

I'll put them on after I get my sideskirts and mirrors.
I'm actually trying to make my car identical to the 2.0R from the UK's and Asia's line of imprezas.

btw, Since it looks like we're all a big subaru family here . . . does anyone here use msn messenger?

My current Mods 2.5i 07

So the first thing I did was replace the rear sway bar...
The stock is only 13mm... (basically it sucked)
I replaced it with a 20mm solid rear sway bar form FHI
https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/p...oducts_id=1131
Just make sure the bushings they send are the sti bushings...
the 06 and 07 have beefier swaybar mounts.. thus the 19mm sti bushings..
This would definately be the first thing I would do to a new 2.5i...
You can use the stock endlinks.. they are fine...
I talked to SubyGal on NASIOC (she rallys) and she said they will hold up fine...
Save some cash use the stock endlinks... FYI the stock WRX comes w/ the same endlinks as the 2.5i..
Dont upgrade the front swaybar.. no need.. (already 20mm in front w/ solid endlinks)

The next upgrade (sameday) was a rear strut tower bar...
Helped tighten up the rear.. worth the money..
Went w/ the cusco type os.. good product... pretty easy intsall..

For the front I am going to install the SPT Front strut bar...
Ordering it monday...
I tried a cusco typ os but due to the ac line being moved on 06 and 07 the bar
did not work.. save your self the hassle buy the spt front strut bar...
https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/p...oducts_id=1176
Remember however strut bars do more for keeping camber and stiffness not body role. but worth it...

As far as exhaust... go axleback (just muffler)...
If you can get your hands on a sti stock muffler.. would be a great cheap upgrade..

thats about it...

Wowwy
guys i gotta say you guys are alot friendly shall we say than people asking for advice from another lets leave nameless forum.

Well other than suspension- performance wise i would love to learn So far intakes, headers, exaust (letting the air flow) are firsts, than Supercarcompact says
HKS Super Fire Racing plugs:
high-rpm smoothness (and perhaps a little bit of power), but in air/fuel ratio (as displayed on our J&S Electronics dual monitor). With the HKS plugs, the engine was running slightly leaner--a sure sign of improved combustion!

Others did recommend there the following. After this im hitting the sac be back tommorow hopefully i wil get somewhere.

Blitz Nur-Spec
ewn cam shafts ($500)
light weight pulleys (quicker accleration)
headers ($600)
hood scoop. cf hood
injen cai (230$)
engine management system (helps stock restrictions...)
~
cf hood
downpipe~
(subie mags says)
12/1 pistons
aggresive - lumpy cams
reflashed conmputer
rear defreaential

BTW i am highly likely getting an 06 rs wagon- a peppy thing i am coming from an h6 outback which is too big for me- and handles poorly- its way slowly and underpowered dont like it enough and few mods available anyway for this 03 so ill trade it.

One other comment- on sportcompact they are getting into reprograming the computer but a boost controller which if you get into is HIGHLY complicated and technical even though a system is avialable without having to change compnenets like air conditiong etc still this engine doesnt seem to be made or handle what the wrx can,. They seem to think it is less reliable and sketchy because of the computer so the ecu engine management helps but dont expect miracles. Putting stress on this engine building up components is more costly than enginge reprograming, maybe just save up your money and turbo following air ratio stuff.

One last point. Acceleration in these babies is not great - over 10! Plus gas mileage. To improve acceleration before adding hp is the idea. Getting the engine to the highest rpm as soon as quick as possible not sitting in a low gear.

But how does this change with automoatic or manual.

WHo has automatic and who has manual.

Me- i drove manual - last night first time! Boy its different but probably i already see in a good way- once i do get the hang of it if i ever do. Is manual the way to go.

But lets not go crazy maybe it can handle like the wrx- but it will never be as powerful- can be as agile naturally do what its bro can- it wasnt meant to- and the rpos have shown not only is it not healthy for it- it just CANT.

For more check out subiesport magazine, cobb forums, AND sportcarcompact.

there is no real reason to upgrade to after market headers on the 2.5i...they are already equal length and already a nice diameter (someone measured the headers and cat at 2.5") so getting a cat-back exhaust will show larger gains (somewhere between 2.25-2.5)

the injen CAI is really nice...i currently am running that and i love that fact it can be a SRI and a CAI

for cams im not sure someone makes cams for the 2.5i (what with it having AVLS and all) if someone has can you point me in the right direction? that would be awesome...

downpipe? these cars aren't turbos (now unless these are audi's which they refer to their headers as downpipes cause the turbos bolt right to the header) same goes with the boost controller...no turbo here...

and as reliability goes...it's not that they can't handle a turbo...it's that the compression of the pistons (10:1) is already high for a turbo (8.0-9.0cr) and can cause problems...hence why you need to run the psi at 5-7psi to make sure you don't "break" anything. these cars are turbo-able...but i wouldn't want to tell you to do it and then cause you to blow the engine. if you wanna turbo...then you gotta do engine work (better pistons and rods, along with some head work) or buy an STi shortblock and put your SOHC heads on it...either way is gonna cost you (and it will void that [sarcasm]awesome[/sarcasm] SOA warranty)

+1 for what zavier said.

The 'only' reason you'd upgrade your EL headers to . . . an aftermarket EL header like obx, would be to change the sound of your exhaust /engine.
IIRC , our EL headers have a cat converter bolted or welded on as a whole.

You 'could' buy the obx EL headers along with an HFC and weld them together to make your car louder? Again, that's your choice if you've got extra cash lying around and want to change the tone of your car.

As for the CAI or SRI, I've heard 2 different sides regarding MPG.
1) You will lose low end torque, but receive high end + you increase your MPG

2) You will lose low end torque, but receive high end + you decrease your MPG

But this is assuming you've taken out the torque air box and replaced it with the SRI or CAI piping.
