Had a pint of Pliny and Heretic IPA today. Heretic Evil Cousin is some really decent stuff, not super hoppy but still a strong IPA.

Edit: Forgot to put my new hangout, Wine Affairs on the Alameda in SJ. Nice rotating selection of draft stuff.

Meh, BA is pointless for me. They don't rate the quality of beers on there, they rate the amount of hops. If it isn't a West Coast style IIPA, it isn't getting above a C. It is the equivalent of someone eating tandoori chicken and saying it sucks because the hamburger taste just isn't there.

For recommendations, I've personally been using Pintly.com, it's like Pandora Radio, but for beer

Anyone else tried this? I'm an admitted hophead and it's nice to get a really good local triple IIPA more often than a few days in February.

I just came back from Ireland, and I must ssay, the guinness there is immensely better than here. Hell, even heiniken tastes way better.

A few beers i tried were:
Dark Arts Stout
Porterhouse Triple Choc Stout
Porterhouse Oyster Stout

Overall i was very happy with most of the micro brews in Dublin.

Glad I'm not the only one!

They describe all the various characteristics of the beer, but then the grade (like you said) seems to only reflect the hoppyness.

Good luck finding a high rated hefeweizen on it.

I'll check out Pintley

I had this this weekend... fricken amazing. The bourbon tastes come through and 11% alcohol beer. Very happy. Fricken expensive.

Be warned though. Once you have the Guinness in Ireland, it is hard to have it here in the States again. It took me over a year to have Guinness again after I came back. And even at that, I don't have it too much anymore.

Lucky me. The Guinness Extra Stout sold right here is my favorite Guinness--much better than the Foreign Extra, the 250 Anniversary Stout, and that tasteless Draught with the effing widget.

You caught my interest. What is this 250 anniversary stout? where can this be found?
