If you feel that I was happy about that statement, it's actually sarcastic.

I googled around and found an article that mentions our company as one that could take the factory off Toyota's hands if they were looking for a 'short sale'. Gonna have to ask the CEO if thats where we are going to invest our latest round of VC.

If they keep the electrical switch yard, that is a good reason to take over the plant, 1/2 price electricity. Even if they don't use that huge ammount, the price is still the same since it's from the transmission lines and not the distribution lines.

Sad to see it go.
Sounds like a prime spot for a huge datacenter complex...

It was said because you clearly do not understand what is going on here.

Its a GOOD thing that other countries come in and set up shops here, as we have exported most of our manufacturing to places like Mexico. Now, toyota came in, and they saved the Nummi plant from death, it had been shut down, and they did a fantastic job working with the union(stupid ****ing unions), and made it a profitable place.

The only reason they are now pulling out of that shop, is because ford pulled out, and with the dip in car sales they have too many plants in the US. It makes complete sence they shut down the ONLY union factory they have.

While I agree with you completely I think can find a "few" people who'd be pretty pissed about that.

Maybe sarcasm was wrong word as well, sass? Not sure.

I'd totally love to see more jobs around here, stateside, but we price ourselves out and not just in the auto industry, but nearly everything.

But if i had a choice of Foreign company, and mind you, I'm indian, and I don't want Mahindra here... If I had to choose, I'd want a US company in that plant. Like Tesla.

But you see, it's not really about unions now is it? Because if it was, Toyota could always say "hey we are going to pull out unless you are willing to dissolve the union and convert to non union workers like our other plants..." but they didn't go that route. why? because they already are producing the same cars for MUCH less labor costs in Mexico and Canada. We priced ourselves out regardless of union or not, they already had been making the cars elsewhere for the past 9-12 months. Which is why I knew they'd leave.

So, again, jobs are jobs, but I'd definitely like to see a US company in that plant. I'd like to see people get off their high horse, take lower wages and get manufacturing jobs back here.

I saw that, but it's ok, I knew what he meant.

He has a very valid point about keeping the jobs going, and so whether that be a foreign company or domestic, it's important to have those jobs. But I personally would really really like to see more domestic companies give the US a shot now that the market is down. I think they will find the labor willing.

The labor is running out of the luxury of choice.

Definitely. I really really see that people will get desperate, big time, by the end of the year. I don't jobs going positive until sometime late next year and could be longer when the market finally sells off and the truth about this bear rally being unsustainable.

It's true that lay offs are slowing, but c'mon now, it's still in the hundreds of thousands per month. They depict this as good news, and idiots buy more stock... the smart ones will sell this month and there will be big time losers.

Besides, I'm sure we will hear more and more about job loss, mortgage delinquency rates, foreclosure rates all going up. Retail sales will grind to a halt this 2nd half, watch the deals on electronics, they are going to be rock bottom this Christmas season. Also watch in SEPT/OCT, as the CA moratorium is over sept 5th, that foreclosure listings will pop up everywhere as banks will unload toxic properties.

To use Arnold as a scape goat is stupid. Just like blaming Grey Davis for the energy crisis when it was Enron's shady dealings. Grey Davis just wasn't bright enough to see past it and was recalled due to getting the blame on energy crisis.

Don't blame Arnold. He got the ***** to make tough decisions that aren't popular with people on the left or the right. We HAVE to make huge cuts, and we HAVE to raise taxes. It's too bad that he isn't powerful enough to REFORM our way of government and spending, cause that's what we REALLY need to do, and the people in CA aren't willing to do it. It's really OUR fault, not his.
I couldn't have said it better myself Gagan!
