My 02 wrx psm has gone to the grave yard. Please help with ideas of what to do. I can part it out. Sell as is. Any help would be great. I don't want to spend the $$$$$ to rebuild unless their is an alternative or a cheap engine.

 

did your radiator bust and you overheated for a short while? how do you know the engine is gone?

 

part it out and sell me the dash and gauge cluster for $200

just bring it to a shop and have them take a look... SE, GST, LIC, AHQ, etc can all help you take a look and tell you what you need to have done to make it run again. Then you decide what you want to do. See if you can get your insurance to tow your car to the shop for you.

 

I also have a 2002 psm wrx. If you do a part out I may be interested in any and all aftermarket parts you have specifically suspension stuff. Does it not turn over anymore? To be honest I'd much rather help you get it back on the road instead of helping you get rid of the parts.

Ya man if it just overheated, and you didnt drive it long, you should check your radiator or headgaskets... might be worth a look into so you might be able to keep your subie

 

check your coolant level first.. it might be that.. n if not that take it to the shops n let them check it out... mike at GST

 

Thanks for all the replys. I will respond to querys as I go along and make decisions. The engine overheated a few months ago when the radiator cracked. I fixed that and included the head gasket sealer with the antifreeze. Since then it continue to overheat intermittently during a/c and a hard driving but seems to cool down. Now driving up from Santa Cruz it wouldn't cool and then just shut down as I tried to find a SAFE place to pull over. Unfortunatley it became too late. Towed it back home and have been problem soving since. Filled with antifreeze and it turnes, but not iginition. Sparks are wet and coolant drains into exhaust pipe. YIKES. This is where I am now, Stuck between a rock and a hard place. I would like to get it up an running again but then again if its too costly I'd rather get a new car. Appreciate all your support. btw I know the head gaskets are gone, did a pressure test and it gurgles.

Sounds like you blew a head gasket.

Sounds like you probably should have replaced your thermostat and probably your water pump when you did the radiator. It could have been as simple as a bum thermostat that started all this mess.

It's a head gasket - almost without a doubt. There are very few ways to get coolant into the exhaust or the combustion chamber.
Engine sealer is BS, if it ever works, it's only for a very short time.

Honestly, you are probably not looking at that much money to have a shop replace the head gasket (<$2000) it's a damn good excuse to install mods at the same time.

If you do decide to give up on the car. Parting is always more profitable than selling as a whole. Of course you have to have the storage space to make it viable

But if you're gonna spend $2k and you're still running on the stock motor it'd probably be worth just buying a 2.5L long block and installing that.
