Nissan Skylines
Oh, and the Audi you are mentioning being banned from racing doesn't have to do with an Audi. In the 80's the original Audi Quattro raced in the unlimited class and because of the unlimited horsepower of the vehicles in this class, people started to die on the track. This forced rally racing to start setting formula limits, forcing factories such as Audi to stop racing cars like the something like 500hp Quattro. Other cars like the Ford RS200 were forced to quit as well.

For the interests of our domestic car makers, it was wise not too allow them to come here.
Think about it, who would buy Camaro and Mutangs or even vettes back in the 90s if the GTRs were available at that time??

The GTR has poor resale value in it's Japanese home. You can buy used Skylines for pretty cheap prices according to folks who've been there, check the thread in the Bay Area section to see a guy standing next to a used one for under 10k. And the Skyline is being sold in America, and sells like hotcakes, Nissan just renamed it the 350Z and G35. RWD, decent horsepower numbers, good six speed transmission. Stand on a street corner in San Francisco and see how many Vettes and "skylines" drive by, I'd estimate about the same amount of each. The resale value of these cars is on par with other sports cars (decent to fair).
To answer the musclecar question, I need use only three words: low end torque. A RWD V8-powered Camaro or Mustang was relatively inexpensive and is pretty darn fast. The only hinderance this car has is the rear axle, which should have been limited slip. The answer is the Corvette, a 3200lb drop-top sex machine that I'd argue would get more looks on the street from the people that count (cute girls and MILFs). The only dudes who ogle over Skylines are car nuts, everyone else would glance at it and wonder who put a body kit on a Mustang.
Sorry had to say that.

Sorry had to say that.My whole point is, if Nissan was to bring this particular vehicle here a decade ago (late 80s or early 90s), it has the potential that no other domestic production sports cars would able to compete. period..

What you'll pay here is for lack of a better word" OUTRAGEOUS" Its not worth it when you can buy a brand new car here that would spank it. The skyline is NOT a world class sports car. Lastly the car has no racing and winning heritage outside the Orient. The car's a joke fools gold for what you'd have to pay to own one here.

Damn, still going on about this crap!
Obviously you're not a true motorsports fan because if you were you could appreciate the skyline for what it is. Even though I wouldn't be caught dead in camaro or firebird I can still respect them for what they are=American muscle, and capable of being damn fast.
Who cares if somebody wants to pay 5x what a car is worth, if they have the money to do it, more power to 'em.

The Skyline is a world class sports car. How can you argue with a 2.6 twin turbo engine that makes roughly 280hp stock and has exponential power potential? It's good looking, roomy, but unfortunately expensive to buy new in Japan, not to mention the ridiculous importation price to the USA. Skylines wasn't brought over to the USA in the 90's because Nissan already had a sports car, the 300zx which let's be honest was a decent car for a decent price. The Skyline is an expensive luxury car, and if you're going to drop big bucks on a sports car in America you're probably more likely to buy a Porsche 911/Viper/Ferrari/Vette/Cobra because those with that kind of cash are buying into an image.
The Skyline has a racing pedigree in Japan only...because that's the only place it's sold, the only place where people can see the car on the track and could at one time buy it at a dealership. Factories only run cars in expensive, multi milion dollar races because they can make money selling the same car in a dealership.

I don't have a lot to say about the skyline in particular, but this is BS. I mean...there are TONS of foreign cars that never make it here that are WAY better than a lot of the cars here. I mean...the STi didn't even make it here until almost a decade after it was availible in Japan. And they DID bring over a skyline...the G35/350Z. They just didn't bring over the top of the line (sort of how subaru and mitsu didn't for a while, and mitsu still doesn't really...)
Your argument (that if a car is really great, they sell it in America) is ignorant as hell. In fact, I would say USDM cars are generally weaker, slower, and overall less impressive than JDM and EDM cars.

they didn't bring certain cars over because they didn't think that there would be a market here for those specific cars. Let's be honest, the import scene wasn't exactly huge in the early 90's. And the not so impressive sales of the 300zx and supra didn't help either. When the '93 supras were released here in the states everyone thought they were way overpriced for what they are, no one got the whole tuner thing, they thought if they bought a car for $35k+ that it shouldn't need to be modded.
I think the sales of those two cars really hurt the usdmarket as far as us getting the really dope models of the crappy cars we got, 240sx, na imprezas, etc.
