I still have the same problem (02 WRX Sedan). Its just something I got use to and now drive accordingly.
Make people pass their test in a stick shift and you'll see a lot less broken subaru gearboxes.
This is the only country I've ever been to where you can pass you test in an auto and then jump straight into a stick without further training!!!!
What about hillstarts? what about e-brake control?? what about holding a car on the biting point of the clutch??
I've heard of plenty of 5MT's that go way past 100K.

Yeah, I delt with it for a long time until I sold. But it was a pain in the *** considering I was living in the Berkeley Hills and often need to engage first gear to get enough torque to get up some sections of road and having to come to a complete stop to do that was a pain in the ***.

I've owned 3 Subarus in my lifetime, a 1984 wagon GL, 2002 WRX Wagon and 2004 STi. Most reliable cars Ive ever owned.
I had a battery die on me with the WRX and I crashed the 1984 wagon with over 200K on the clock (that thing would have ran forever). The 2 other cars I had (Ford Probe and Buick LeSabre) broke down on me.
+1 for Subaru.
