Sounds like a 10 year old car with a lot of miles and a lot of hard driving to me. I don't think man budget imports are gonna fair too much better with the kind of driving you used to do.

I think people expect too much out of their cars sometimes. Its not like the RS is a high dollar sports car with refinements like a BMW would have. It's a budget import designed to be somewhat sporty and really safe. You stick really stiff suspension on them and larger wheels with lowerer sidewall stiffer sidewall tires and drive the **** out of them and things are gonna come apart faster. Drive it like a grandma and it'll run for a quarter million and be the best car you've ever owned.

The fact that my car has survived me for 135,000 miles is a miracle. I love my car. Just have to live with some of the little **** like not having any sound deadening.

At least you don't have a new Evo X and have to worry about the gas pedal snapping. Oh wait, didn't you say you wanted to buy an Evo X?

I do agree that the quality of the interior is ***, but then again, anything around that price range during those years the GC/GM's came out in weren't that much better. I can probably fix a fair portion of that road noise with the giant roll of RAAMmat and Ensolite I have. The problems I ever encountered was a failed/pitted transmission bearing and a busted wheel bearing. Right now, I have issues with reverse from time to time that'll require me to press down on the clutch again for me to be able to engage. So, it's not bad as a daily driver until I can afford a nicer (and much newer) ride.

i bought my RS july of 07. the engine spun a rod bearing 1.5 HOURS after i bought it... neither the previous, or myself, checked the oil... it happens. i paid $1300 and 3 months waiting for it to come back with a fully rebuilt engine.

30,000 miles in 1 year.

i've replaced all 4 wheel bearings.

uh... thats it. and i drive my 99RS like an absolute mad man...

you just got bad luck.

on my 03 wrx before i sold it, i had to change all 4 wheel bearings at one time, brakes went out hella fast, 2nd gear starting to grind, 3rd gear starting to grind, then had to change 2 wheel bearings again.. but i chalked it all up to driving it like it was stolen, and it had less than 55k.. sold it to a 16yr old kid who totalled it in 2 months...

Welcome back to the world of GC. Last time I drove my car stuff where going out too. My sunroof died so I had to use the allen key to open and close it during summer. Then a couple things here and there broke and needs fixing.

Why won't you have to worry about maintenance on this car?

I drive a new BMW, when it needs something I ring up Peter Pan BMW, schedule a service appointment and pickup my car from them when it is ready free of charge.
