I'm so god damn tired of Subarus lack of quality...

My RS was nothing but a nightmare after about 70k... Besides replacing one engine and two transmissions, the last 7 months of the car have been one thing after another, non-stop!
Just to name some:
-Terrible interior quality
-Things inside falling apart left and right
-2 sets of broken seatbelt buckles
-Alternator x 2
-Oil pump
-motor
-transmission x 2 (Stock hp)
-O2 sensors x 1000000
-Leaking weather stripping
-Interior panels falling off
-electrical problems
-headlight loom b0rk3d
-random bulbs burning out CONSTANTLY
-More squeaks then the rats in NYC
-2 master cylinders
-broken subaru stereo deck
-I think I have replaced over 10 wheel bearings over the past 5 years.

Just to name the ones off the top of my head... Not all of that happened within the last 7 months, but it seems I'm fixing something EVERY friggin week on that POS. I hope someone rear ends me and totals it once and for all. I can't sell it because it has so many damn problems, I wont get squat for it. It reminds me of that movie "Money pit".

I was hoping my 06 TR would be an improvement, however that isn't the case at all... It's def nicer then the RS, but that POS 5 speed just couldn't be any worse... Isn't falling apart as much as the RS, but it was starting to before I wrapped it around that tree... I hate to say it, unless I find a really spectacular deal on an STi, I really don't think I'll ever drive a Subaru ever again... I'm all set for an EVO, which I know isn't a drastic improvment over the Subaru in terms of quality, but the ones I have driven make up for it in terms of all out better performance then the subie... Sorry if that offends any of you, but I'm just in a bad *** mood right now after spending about 8 hours today working on fixing some random things on the subaru today... The thing that pisses me off is that they friggin want 28K for a new WRX now! Sorry Subaru, you guys need to put down the crack pipe.

/ Rant

*puts on flame suit*

I hope someone just t-bones it and totals it once and for all... I really hate that damn car now... Biggest pain in the *** ever. Can't wait to get an EVO so I can be done with the Subaru quality lacking nightmares I've experienced with the 2.5RS and the 06 TR... (Oh, also, on the RS I've gone through 2 trannys and the TR was about lose its transmission... glad that POS got totalled.)

Oh, let me at least say one positive thing about owning a Subaru...

THE COMMUNITY!

You guys making owning a Subaru really worth it... Without this community, I really don't know if I'd be such a HUGE fan.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still a huge Subaru fan, I'm just a bit bitter about the fate of my two subies in terms of quality... I just feel let down.

I think it's you....or your **** luck.

The wife daily drives a 1996 Legacy Outback with 240K on the clock.
It consumes oil and has a laundry list of little/minor issues but the car is dead nuts reliable.
How did the first engine fail?
How many miles on it?
Was the 2nd engine new or rebuilt?

Why were the wheel bearings replaced?

Dan, it's **** luck combined with a hard life, but damn, you've seen my wagon. I beat on it, constantly, and I haven't had near the issues you had.

I popped headgaskets, and later swapped in a shortblock at 180k because of a rod knock due to long-term oil starvation. At 250k, said "**** it" when a HG started going and put in a new motor and rebuilt transmission. Other than that, I've replaced 2 wheel bearings, a couple of CV's, a starter solenoid, and an alternator, and redid the AC system this summer.

That might sound like quite a list, but the car has 262k on it now. Other than my motor stuff, I haven't ever had real issues with the car.

Sorry, man :|
It really seems like you needed an STi and not a TR, with the way you go through transmissions - I seem to remembe ryou blowing a hole in a 4EAT, lol.

If you do need anything for the RS, let me know, as I'll be down in a few weeks and will be running by your place anyways.

well if thats what i have to "put up with" in order for my RS to be 400lbs lighter than a bugeye chassis, im all for it.

You dont enjoy your rally squeaks? i love them! especially when my clutch pedal develops a squeak when i press it in...that's a rare treat every few months!

Same with my RS and my moms OBS...constant supply of fresh oil never hurt anything

That sux bro.

But the only problem I had with my 98RS was the usual head gasket problem and a ruptured clutch hose. $hit I didn't even get a 60k or 90k service until the head gasket problem happened around 110k miles!! I dogged the $hit outta that car, (cant even count how many times I dumped the clutch at a 5000 standstill). And I'm surprised I never had any electrical problems because I had the ghettoest sound system setup ever!!

My 03 wrx is doing great too! Only problem is a tail light that went out.

Sorry to hear about your car problems tho. Mayb its that string of bad luck you've been having lately..

Try driving a car that wreaks of gas, has no power steering, touchy clutch, wind noise, creaks, squeaks, AM radio, had gears ground down in the tranny by the female parental unit and had to be replaced with a 5 speed, hub and CV joint roller bearings that have to be repacked periodically, cracking plastic interior parts, leaking shocks (konis and stock), etc. The sucky SU carbs also need constant attention, but i still love the car every time I drive it. Guess what car it is... (the SU carbs are a hint)

point is.. Still love the car even though it has some annoyances and through its problems. The subie is a good car. Like anything else it'll have its share of problems. I haven't had as many problems as yours but I still like driving the car. Try seeing if teh lemon law applies if worse comes to worse. Definitely couldn't hurt.

Mine did great until 90k - since then it has been falling apart:

head gasket,
window lifter metalwork fatigued and gave out,
trunk release failed,
AC condensor failed again,
Sprays fuel out onto the engine during colder weather. - I could probably get this fixed but I don't want to spend my money fixing Subaru's crap design for the fuel connection.

The clutch needs changing out, but the car now has 125k on it so I'm ok with that. It is also showing all 4 cylinders misfiring at idle which I need to get checked out.
