Good luck with the transmission after about 80K miles. Their "free" maintenance doesn't include changing the tranny fluid at the 60k service
. My parents transmission died at 82k and my BMW mechanic friend said that $hit happens all the time. Complete bull$hit if you ask me. Then there's the interior plastics and whatnot. They don't hold up well at all, and that's after seeing firsthand my parents X5 and my buddy's Mini. I'm not saying Bimmers don't drive great, just that they have problems as well and aren't the end-all vehicle.

ALL i can say is, I love my subaru and I pray that I don't come across that type of ****...keepin my fingers crossed..but so far so good..07 wrx with 14k miles
I put 30k on my subaru in the first year of ownership... and I started with 4 miles on the odometer. I hope this stuff stays far away from me if at all possible, but unfortunately it seems I'll get to find out a lot sooner than most.

I think I put about 36k on mine the first year. I have averaged between 30 and 35k a year since I've had it until this year. It has sat like 2-3 months so far this year so it's down on pace for 15k or less this year.

that guy has it right.

yeah. toyota only has the single most selling car of all time...
the toyota corolla. over 35 MILLION have been purchased since the name was put on a car.
not only that, but toyota is the #2 auto maker in the world. only ford is above them, and the margin is slim. very slim.

what exactly went wrong on the tranny.
probably 95 percent of tranny failures i see are due to freeway downshifting or just plain abuse.
Im not accusing you of either. i just dont see how its possible.

I've seen many subaru trannys fail due to poor manifacturing. Hell, ask any subaru shop about Subaru trannys... My TR came out of the box with 3rd gear that would constantly grind, and a reverse that was almost impossible to engage. When I changed the tranny oil I had like 2 oz of metal in the oil pan... I don't drag race or anything, just normal driving. This is apparently common with subaru's crappy 5speed of doom.
The 6speed however is totally different

ehhh, i beg to differ, i own two five speed subarus, one of them is highly modified with over 100000 miles. never had a tranny problem ONCE. Thats an 02.
the second is an 06 and has about 50000 miles. Still as strong as the day i bought it.
