Just take the stupid thing off.. Takes like 2 mins. It's like 6 tabs and two screws, very easy to get to as well.

It serves no real purpose, so just take it off.

Trust me, if you hit something hard enough to where you want to protect your oil pan, that plastic thing will do NOTHING to save your oil pan. Even 1/4" thick aluminum skid plates do very little!

I just changed my oil for the first time on Tuesday, and the filter was on super tight from the factory. I can't believe how small these filters are in comparison to the civic I used to have. Anyway, I ended up putting a bunch of rubber bands so my filter wrench had something to hold on to.

I think it's for aerodynamics, not oil pan protection.

my 4 runner has the filter on the top of the block, it's a piece of cake to get on and off... it's even got a built-in funnel in case you accidently spill any. 5k oil changes are pretty sweet too.

my tundra on the other hand has the filter on the bottom, but with those tires and suspension jacks are not needed

1/4" thick aluminum skid plate?

Nah...too thick. It'll allow the frame to bend instead of absorbing the hit.

That's why Paul Eklund sells the 3/16ths aluminum skid plate. I have it installed on both wagons, and YES, they do absorb the impacts...they do their job extremely well.

^Rally-x. Not much chance of hitting a rock, but definitely firms up the steering and ties the front end together nicely.

First of all I did read this whole thread,
Maybe it's my reading comprehension skills or possibly because it's early in the morning but is the car in this thread with the oil change problem due to ELH's a 2007? I was under the impression that only the new body style 08's had the Equal length headers. I know a budy of mine with an 07 WRX that has Unequal length headers. When 07 was mentioned was this just refering to the production date of the car?
