Trust me, I thought of that option... including every other option available.
I dont see how thats possible, unless the filter is all poked to hell. If it was simply stuck on and you guys didnt mangle it, you could simply put the drain plug back in, fill the oil, and drive it over.

No, it was mangled all to helll... Cuz we tried to stick a screw driver through it and twist it off (Old school way)... But even that wouldn't do it.

Dude, that brings back memories of Me, Internation B, kostamojen, and wrx ish duct taping Ryan's oil pan after he punctured it on some mountain road in tahoe. Lets just say that duct tape and jb weld don't work well on surfaces that have oil on them!

That was a looooong drive home.

We basically did the method that ucsbsti suggested... Put heavy oil into it and just drive... because the car doesn't store oil in the oil pan when the motor is on... oil is in the engine/etc....

Only lost about a quart of oil driving to San Ramon from Tahoe.

Speaking of punctured oilpan...

A week and a half ago I went to socal to pick up all my stuff I had stored away...into a uhaul. We're driving down the 5 and I was in my fiance's STi and his clutch is much stiffer than mine so I went to the Starbucks off Laval Rd (just outside the grapevine) to stretch my legs. Someone drove into the Starbucks drive-thru the wrong way...freaked out and jumped the curb. The entire oil on the ground and you know they were out-of-towners. Definitely turned into a looooooooooong road trip for them as they wait to get their car fixed.

I learned not to use those bozos the hard way, and it took me three times to figure it out-
My RX-7, motor blew about 2000 miles after a quicky lube oil change, my Toyota pick up "lost" the radiator cap (and of course overheated and blew up) after an oil change and my '84 GL wagon blew up after an oil change.
I think you are better off running 40,000 miles on old oil than going to those stupid places.

How the hell is anyone supposed to change that oil filter when they wrapped the header in all that razor-blade lookin' heat shroud. Geez, what a ****-poor design.
You'll be lucky to walk away without bleeding severely from every knuckle.

Did you just try to take the header off and use the screwdriver method?

I would have if it would have come to that point!

If that header wasn't there, the screwdriver would have worked in a second. Stupid redesign! They gained, what, 1hp? from the ELH? I'd sacrifice that 1hp for the ability to change my own oil without having to go crazy on it!

Never had this issue with RS...
