I am sooo pissed at Subaru right now!!!

I was helping my friend change his oil on his 2.5i, when we got to the oil filter, we realized it was impossible to take off.

Thanks to subaru for wrapping the headers around the oil filter, which makes it impossible to use conventional tools to remove the damn filter. You can't even stick a screw driver through it because of how far in it is. WORST DESIGN EVER!

He took his car to a shop to get his oil changed the previous time, and they screwed that thing on there sooo tight that it is virtuallt impossible to take the damn thing off.

We've spent hours trying to take it off... NOTHING has worked! NOTHING!

We've tried EVERYTHING possible.... with conventional tools. We even bought the specicifc cup that adapts to a wrech so you can take it off... It just strips the filter... it wont come off.

So not only is Subaru at fault, but so is the stupid Jiffy Lube place for putting the filter on so god damn tight!!! WHY would they put it on so tight!?

Sorry, had to vent... AAAARRRGGGG!

They have filter wrenches that look like huge pliers. I'm sure that could have taken it off.

It's an 07 2.5i . So it has the header that wraps around the oil filter. It's a stupid *** design and whoever thought of it should be shot!

The WRX doesn't have this issue at all.

I'm pissed at Subaru because they designed this thing so you can't use any tools on it (other than your hand and maybe a specialty tool)... But even with the specific oil filter wreches, this this thing can't be worked on.

It's amazing what Subaru has done! YOU MORONS!

(The filter is on really tight as well, and that is due to the jiffy lube-type place!! :furious: )

Would a K&N be easier to take off with that hex head it has on the bottom? Doesnt help you for getting this one off, but may be a better idea for next time.

My GF took her car to Jiffy Lube ONCE, they put like 6,000 gallons of oil in it. She called me and asked: "so what does it mean when I check my oil and its half way up the dipstick." I expect the main seals will be going pretty soon because of that. She now changes her own oil.

Damn, that's the last resort too, considering the plier style can crush the filter and you'll be able to twist it off.

There are socket adapters that have spring loaded sides that dig into the sides of the filters. I use them all the time.

Just like the one in the link. They are better than those plastic cups

I got one of these, which is supposed to work well but I haven't tried it yet.

Does this look like it would work on the 2.5i?

Well, on our cars yes, it'd be great... however, since the headers wrap AROUND the filter, and the filter is

I would ask the idiots over at jiffy lube and find out how they got it that tight in the first place. Oh, and never go there again.
