I never said that open source maps are dangerous; it's the tuner.
I was giving my opinion that Ego13 should be wary of those "tuners" that offer open source tuning simply because there are a lot of people, who now have a free software tuning package, that fancy themselves "tuners."

however, i don't play the modified car game anymore... i like my cars to start right every time, drive the same regardless of atmospheric conditions, get a good long life out of the drivetrain, etc...

11.6-11.8 as VERY LEAN for full load on 91 octane. I only know of one tuner who would have actually tuned the car at that a/f and he is no longer in the area. I also don't believe he tuned Cobb. Taking that into consideration, I would seriously consider the possibility that the setup has changes since the tune, a leak is present, or possibly there was a leak present at the time of the tune that was fixed after. That map may even have been tuned for a different car and then "shared" with a friend. Considering the current owner of the car was not the one who got it tuned or put the map on it in the first place, there are many possible explanations for why the tune is that far off. BTW, Did you log the fuel trims or try resetting the ECU?

Finally, if you truly believe that whoever tuned that car actually tuned it to run that lean a/f, you really owe it to the community to expose that tuner. Right now all you're saying is "there is a local tuner who sucks, better bring the car to me". I also understand you're trying to look like the bigger man by not posting who you believe tuned the car, but I'm also 100% sure you have no qualms talking to all of your customers and whoever walks into your shop about who this tuner is. Then you guys can have a nice
session without any further data, information, or possible explanation from the tuner in question. Sorry, but there is nothing respectful about that approach. So enough gossip. If you truly believe this car was tuned to run the way you saw it, go ahead and post who you believe tuned that car. Its only good for the community right?
On the other hand, if you don't honestly think the tuner set the car up to run that way, and maybe, just maybe, parts, leaks, and other issues have changed and been fixed through the two owners that could throw off the tune, your post is then just gossip and extremely unethical as you're just trying to bad mouth potential competition.
BTW, I honestly have no idea who tuned this car. Considering your attitude toward me in the past and the things I hear coming from your shop, I figured this may be directed at me specifically. So I checked through my database of customers and tunes and I can't find any 04 WRX matching the mods you posted, so I can only assume this is a different tuner? Either way, if you really believe the tune was set up dangerously you owe it to the community to post the tuner you believe is responsible. That will do a lot more for the community than the gossip approach you're taking.

Not quite... when I told a customer his tune was dangerous, I provided him with all the logs, information, and explanation of why and how the car was running poorly. I also suggested that it was likely a mechanical issue as I didn't believe any tuner would actually tune a car that way. I recommended to that customer to take his car back to his tuner to get it checked out and fixed. I did NOT simply say the tune is bad, the tuner is bad, I can do better! When the tuner refused to fix the tune, however, the customer became quite angry and posted his experience. A bit different than this situation don't you think?
