But what you say will change the facts? Either way, this is waay off topic and all this BS has been covered and beat to death what 2 years ago?

How about we stick to the topic at hand. If Paul believes the tune in question was tuned that way, he owes it to the community to expose the tuner. Either that or he knows that the tune must have been thrown off by something and is just badmouthing and spreading gossip. So which is it?

Claimed power was ~260ish whp.
**NOTE*** The power graph (first picture) was done using an equivilent weight increased 15% higher than normal, andthe car still didn't make claimed power.

Sir,

Can you speak to the two posters above that stated you said they had major problems with their cars? I'm curious, as I've heard you tune out of the bay area and wish to have more information on how to get my car tuned and who to go with.

Thank you,

correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't recall reading anything about the tune depicted in the dyno graphs being described as unsafe or the like, just that it wasn't optimal.

The car owner will be coming back in a few days for a full retune.
And I completely agree with Paul's assessment that 11.6-11.8 a/f at full boost is not only far from optimal but could also be dangerous. I personally would never tune a car to that a/f on 91 octane.

Thanks

Thank you,
I don't know about the specific people who posted here, but several years ago, I did look over some cars that were tuned by a shop that is no longer in business. I remember seeing two tunes that were running very lean and experiencing a good deal of knock. One was a bugeye WRX that was running lean and pulling up to 10 degrees of timing due to knock. That owner ended up starting a ton of drama over the issues he experienced with that shop. The other was an STI that I ended up re-tuning for the customer and haven't heard from since.

I may have looked over logs from some other cars but I don't recalls the cars or the owners specifically. Remember, just because the tune is bad doesn't mean the engine will blow up... especially if the owner doesn't drive the car hard too often. The factory ECUs are great at protecting the engine even under poor conditions. The dyno and a/f plot that Paul posted in this thread is a perfect example of that. That doesn't mean, however, that its ok to run around on a lean tune and just let the ECU pull a ton of timing to try to save the engine. Give a tune like that to someone who actually tracks their car on a regular basis, and the motor will not last long.

As far as picking someone to tune your car, I would recommend looking through reviews and speaking with people who have actually personally dealt with and been tuned by whichever tuner you're considering. Many people will offer their opinions about someone without ever even having met them in person, let alone been tuned by them. Individuals who have actually had work done by someone will be able to provide a much more accurate opinion based on their own actual experiences.

Thanks

Your condescending tone is quite tiring.

Everything I've said is relevant; be leary of those that are not professional tuners.
The graphs support this claim; they are of a tune performed by a non professional tuner.
Other than the less than stellar tune, there are no know defects with this car.

As far as map sharing, I don't know, but I guess it's posible.
Current owner bought it from original/first owner & it came with the AccessPORT and tune.
Again, the first owner had it tuned, then sold the car and the AccessPORT that was married with the car.
I never said who the tuner was, where they are located, etc.
And yet you assume it's a tuner from the greater bay area.

Does it really matter who tuned the car?

How do you define a "professional tuner"? If the tune was performed by someone who owns Cobb's ProTuner software, I would consider them to be a "professional tuner" even if they are not good at it.

You're right you didn't say it was a local tuner. I assumed so based on the fact that the car is in the bay area, but it certainly could have been tuned elsewhere. I apologize for my assumption. So is the tuner local or not?

If you believe this tuner did a bad job and tuned the car to run that a/f, then it does indeed matter who tuned the car. I imagine you wouldn't want anyone from our community getting tuned by them and therefore you're warning people. That's why you posted the graph in the first place right? By being ambiguous you're not helping out the community at all but rather trying to stir up more business for yourself. From our past experiences I know you're not the type of guy to shy away from confrontation, so why do it now?
