Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

fmic or turbo upgrade first?????

sup fellow subbie owners, i ordered a turboxs tbe along with the turboxs uppipe and my next mod is either a fmic or turbo upgrade and i wanted to know which one to go first? i eventually am going to do both but i don't know which to get first. either fmic then turbo upgrade or turbo upgrade then fmic. im asking this because the stock turbo seems too small to provide enough boost for a fmic

I would not suggest running a FMIC on the stock turbo or stock engine management. You will be disappointed and feel like you wasted your $. An upgraded turbo will run on the stock TMIC just fine.

Ideally, you should save your money and do both at the same time, but if funds don't permit, I would suggest the turbo first. Just be sure and get some form of engine management (and no, SAFC, GReddy E-manage, and Boost Controlelrs are NOT engine management!).

I see no problem getting a FMIC first. If you know where you're going in your mod path and don't mind spending a $1,000 w/ no appreciable performance gain then go ahead and get the FMIC first. I've always taken a more conservative approach in upgrading stuff. I still have the stock turbo and I've recently purchased a UTEC, STi injectors and FMIC. I intend to install and tune all of these with the stock turbo before I upgrade it.

I would get the turbo first and run it on the stock tmic if you dont have the money right away to get both. I would also get bigger injectors, fuel pump and EM to run the turbo when you install it.

EM, Turbo, Injectors, fuel pump... then EM again.... then IC

... in that order.
