ECU upgrade or Turbo upgrade???
I have a daily driver, completely stock. I hate how the turbo dies before redline. I drive normal, (shift at 3k or 4k) but enjoy the occasional race. With this in mind, should I go with a turbo upgrade i.e. VF 34 or the TD04 stage 2 upgrade, or would you suggest a Cobb reflash? The price is irrelevant right now.
I will upgrade the fuel in a couple of months. The stock fuel is ok I heard as long as you don't drive the hell out of your car.
thanks
Jason

If you upgrade your turbo, you will need to do ECU work anyway... It all depends on what you want. If you want a LOT of power, then go with with the new turbo. But if you do, you should really think strongly about upgrading your fule sys. You sure as hell dont want to shell out all that money for the turbo and then burn up your engine because you were running to lean due to inadequate fule delivery. Also, you will probably want to look into other mods to compliment the turbo (ie exhaust, brakes, a K&N, ECU, etc.). There is a lot more work involved in the turbo upgrade, but it may be worth it to you. Check out the Vishnu site and the TurboXS site. They both offer really nice packages that have most of what you need to easily do an upgrade like the one you are considering.

My experience with the FP TD04 upgrade is that it does not have more horespower potential than the stock turbo it is just more efficient and can hold more boost to redline. I had them put a TD04H turbine and a 19T compressor in mine and with a Vishnu dyno tune I'm running 18 PSI tapering to 14.5 at redline. This gives a noticeable difference in driveability as the torque curve is very flat compared to most turbos and it spools as quickly as the stock unit. The good thing about it is that I don't have to remove it should I need any warranty work but the horsepower is comparable to a Vishnu stage 1.
