If you get sent to the state ref and they deem your mod to be legal, you can carry a copy with you and the cops shouldn't be able to give you a ticket for that particular thing.

It's a big pain. I have a Greddy Evo2 and got pulled over for it being too loud. It was probably because I was in my BOV stage and had it on there. He let me go with a warning.
