Meh, we may just go with samsungs newer 65" plasma.
Vizio M series are LED... or is that the same as LCD?

the screen is LCD, the backlight is LED. The LED backlight units do tend to have better blues and reds from what I have observed.

I probably would've gone plasma as well but the room it's going in has large windows along one side of the room so there's light reflection during any daytime viewing. The LCDs with the matte screen finish reflect a lot less light so it made the decision somewhat easy. After seeing the Visio in the store and getting the TV Godfather's (Gagan) blessing it was a no brainer.

You aren't going to get great blacks on a LCD like you do on a Plasma, but I haven't found it to be a big issue if you have good light control in your room (curtains, etc...). The benefit you get with LED LCD is pretty much higher contrast and brighter picture that will not drift over time as much as a Plasma, as well as significantly lower power draw.

Plasmas are practically dead also, so if you want a good one, better pick up a Panasonic right now since they made the best ones (ZT, VT) and they just said they will cease production. Basically, they can no longer meet Energy Star requirements at 50+ size panels.

??? uh no, Samsung and Panasonic just released new units for 2014, energy star compliant, 64" screens.

Now, the under 50" plasma you can't really get anymore, for 2014 most companies have dropped the smaller sizes.

Swansongs... This is the last year. It's dead after this last ride.

Not sure what that means for support or parts down the stretch but even me, I've switched to LCDs.

If I can watch hockey or football and be happy there was just no logical reason left to stick to plasma.

Brian and Vijay:

If you got yours from Costco opt for the extended warranty from square trade.

If not go to square trades site and just buy one. Its dirt cheap coverage and should net you long term use OR replacement to the newest TV at the time of service.

I think I paid $99 for 3years past the 2years I got from Costco.

I did get it from Costco but I didn't get the extended warranty. Is it really worthwhile? Have you used that provider for a "claim" in the past?

Looks like it's $129.99 for the three-year ($1,000-$1,499 bracket):

The following applies to 2013 Vizio M TVs (thin bezel) in 60", 70" or 80" only.
