How do you like the LCD screens? Ive been looking because our 50" Plasma is coming up on 6 years old now, and ive found most the LCD I look at have really poor response in the black/grey spectrum and the yellows are just, meh. Now given I am comparing to a plasma...
Meh, we may just go with samsungs newer 65" plasma.

Plasmas are practically dead also, so if you want a good one, better pick up a Panasonic right now since they made the best ones (ZT, VT) and they just said they will cease production. Basically, they can no longer meet Energy Star requirements at 50+ size panels.

Now, the under 50" plasma you can't really get anymore, for 2014 most companies have dropped the smaller sizes.
Not sure what that means for support or parts down the stretch but even me, I've switched to LCDs.
If I can watch hockey or football and be happy there was just no logical reason left to stick to plasma.

If you got yours from Costco opt for the extended warranty from square trade.
If not go to square trades site and just buy one. Its dirt cheap coverage and should net you long term use OR replacement to the newest TV at the time of service.
I think I paid $99 for 3years past the 2years I got from Costco.

Looks like it's $129.99 for the three-year ($1,000-$1,499 bracket):
