Return the old one, get the new one and then just paint it black!
I might go try them out in person if I can find a store with it. Who knows when I'll be in socal or when you'll be in norcal, lawl
As for the adapter, yeah the mixamp works really well, tried the wireless version on my PS3 and PS4 without a hitch.

Anyone know of a place you can check out phones in person? Seems like places like that are all dead and gone. All we have is Best Buy and such. Would like to listen to some cans, for example, I would like to compare the Sennheiser HD380 and the HD650. Also wanted to check out that new model they have (forget what they are called, they look sort of retro).
Otherwise seems like the only option is ordering like $2k worth of headphones and then sending back the ones I did not want.

That virtual barber shop is pretty damn cool. Thanks for sharing.
I'm going to take wombatsauce's advise and buy a headphone amplifier. Any reasonably priced suggestions? Amazon has quite a few but I don't really know what to look for.

I use a

about $40 for both. Pretty good value, and they are small/fit pretty easy in my jeans pockets.
Beyerdynamic DT-770-PRO-32 Closed Dynamic Headphone for Mobile Control and Monitoring Applications, 32 Ohms:Amazon:Musical Instruments
Love these DT-770 headphones... $185 for the 32ohm are a steal.
$165 for the 250ohm are a steal too, but you'd need a headphone amp to power them.

Queeg9k - I think you built one yourself, right? Was that a kit or a set of plans or did you just do it homebrew?

Don't know about using a phone and MP3's for source though. So far I have never been impressed by that. I have mostly MP3's that I made myself but in every case, it sounds night and day different better, more clear, wide open, vivid and hearing things I never knew existed when I play the same music using an old Sony Discman (D-555) as source into my amp. I can take a CD from that thing, rip it to MP3, and then play the MP3's (no less than 320k) back from another source and can instantly hear the difference. Maybe I am just doing it wrong. A few friends have tried to save me from my CD players but usually agree that it does sound better after the Pepsi challenge (but that they still do not want to carry around large old crap - which I understand). Of course no one wants to be "that guy" with a CD player from the 80's but it just sounds soooooo goooooood. The way I look at it, at least I am not sitting at a coffee shop listening to LP's. Heh.
This is also the same with Bluetoof or wired in my car though - using my phone via Bluetoof or the USB port in my car. There is a massive difference between the two, using the same exact file as source, played through my car's audio system. Bluetoof sounds weak and tinny, and you cannot turn it up. I assume it's due to bandwidth (but I don't really know).
Sometimes I use an iPod because it's just not practical to carry around a massive player and discs, but when I use my phone, it does not sound as good, and I can sometimes hear other noises in there which I assume means my amp may not be very well sheilded. I should try the line-out thing though as I have been using the headphone output adjusted aurally to the same level as the line out on my CD player.
The biggest difference I see between using MP3 or a CD is that with the CD, I can really crank it up because it sounds pure and clean. Sometimes so much that I will start listening and sort of get lost in the music. With MP3 (or even a lesser CD player) I cannot, because it does not sound as good.
But, that is probably why the Sony D-555 Discman continues to sell for more than it was new in 1989. Last one I saw was on eBay for $555. Have seen them go for nearly $1k if they were in good shape.
