With Paul/Kobe they wouldn't have to lean on him for that many points and his defense would be critical.
^ Trade's already done.
3 team trade:
Chris Paul to Lakers,
Pau Gasol to Houston
Lamar Odom, Kevin Martin, Luis Scola, Goran Dragic, and 2012 1st round pick (Houston received from Knicks) to Hornets
And Tyson Chandler's heading to the Knicks. Guess the Warriors are once again going conservative in the offseason only to be stuck in mediocrity for the season again

Or better yet... the message is... play out your contracts, talk to your buddies, pick a team and built it yourself.
They are taking ALL power away from the owners in this situation. It was bad enough that they supported the LDB move by hyping it so much. Those players got together and formed their own team but when owners get together and try to make moves that can benefit ALL 3 teams they block it?
So the destruction of 3 teams to create a super media power house is better than strengthening 3 teams?
This is bull****. They are just coming out of a strike and they're going to go straight in to this kind of crap.
He needs to step down. Between him and the douche bag running baseball right now professional sports is a joke. I'd rather deal with the broken BCS system.

The letter stern got from the cavs owner.
Commissioner,
It would be a travesty to allow the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul in the apparent trade being discussed.
This trade should go to a vote of the 29 owners of the Hornets.
Over the next three seasons this deal would save the Lakers approximately $20 million in salaries and approximately $21 million in luxury taxes. That $21 million goes to non-taxpaying teams and to fund revenue sharing.
I cannot remember ever seeing a trade where a team got by far the best player in the trade and saved over $40 million in the process. And it doesn’t appear that they would give up any draft picks, which might allow to later make a trade for Dwight Howard. (They would also get a large trade exception that would help them improve their team and/or eventually trade for Howard.) When the Lakers got Pau Gasol (at the time considered an extremely lopsided trade) they took on tens of millions in additional salary and luxury tax and they gave up a number of prospects (one in Marc Gasol who may become a max-salary player).
I just don’t see how we can allow this trade to happen.
I know the vast majority of owners feel the same way that I do.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?
Please advise….

Guy is just pissed because of how terrible they are and how much money they're loosing with Lebron gone. He got screwed over.
Fact of the matter is that yes the Lakers would get the best player in that particular trade and a building block for the future. But they also loose one of the best big men in the game and a VERY solid forward.
So yes they dump salary to more than likely go after Howard... probably the plan. So in essence they're really not saving any money. They are letting go of 2 very good players to get one younger very good player... that they will have to pay more eventually.
The cavs just want the luxury tax dollars.
The only reason this is a big deal is because it's the Lakers. PERIOD.

Yeah I don't think I'm going to be watching much nba this year, can't support all the BS that's going on with the players and owners...bunch of greedy rich ******
While obviously the NBA pretty much screwed this over by themselves (they could've avoided all of this "conflict of interest" by selling the Hornets to any buyer, although the majority of buyers, including Larry Ellison, wanted to move the Hornets out of New Orleans while the NBA wanted a buyer who would keep them in NO), this was actually a pretty good deal for all 3 teams involved, especially the Hornets.
Blocking this trade was just stupid on many levels. The Lakers will be getting one player, though he may be the best player but it's one. Who will play PF for them? Their bench is not deep without Lamar.
The Hornets get many nice players, much better than what they would get in other trades. The team that it didn't make sense for is Houston.
By blocking this trade it sets precedence for any Paul trades, meaning none should go through. What does that mean? It means Paul will play out this year and sign with the Knicks. The Knicks will have Paul, Melo, Amare and Chandler with a couple of young role players that fit in nicely. Is that what the owners want?
There is no gaurentee that Paul will sign a long term contract if Howard doesn't go there either.

Dwight Howard to ask Orlando Magic for trade to New Jersey Nets, sources say - ESPN
I don't see how this, the Miami situation, Melo or any other player asking/demanding a trade is any different.
Lebron, Wade and Bosh were just stupid in how they did it. They should have just went through Riley and made him look like a genius.
Also let's accept facts, there are smart and dumb GMs / owners. MJ, great player ever. One of the dumbest GM / owners. Remember last year, he traded Gerald Wallace for Prizbilla(sp?). Good job.

Brandon Roy of Portland Trail Blazers to retire due to knees, sources say - ESPN

wonder how all the people in the trades are going to feel at practice today.. lol... this is bad for all parties concerned about not allowing the trade.. at least these other teams were getting something for the paul trade, now after 66 games he's gone and they have nothing to show for it.. also, stern is not ok with paul for odom and gasol but he was ok for the gasol for brown trade..? seriously, this guy is a joke and i dont see this trade as over... i dont think the lakers will get howard but paul is still an option, time for bynum to step up.. i heard a rumor that the warriors were trying to get chandler.. poor souls over in China also.. lol
