as for attracting players because of san francisco? really?
Yup, the Warriors ownership is banking on the move to a larger "Destination" city to bring hopes of exciting the fan base, bringing in new talent & hopefully winning championships.

does this mean we're not going to see a championship team in the next 5 years...

I haven't seen a Warriors Championship team in my lifetime. Would love to see it though. The last time they Won was in the 1974-1975 Season.

At this point, I would be happy seeing them at least elevating to being a Playoff Contender on a yearly basis rather than a bottom dweller of the Conference as they have been.

The Western Conference is going into a transition time right now as teams that have been dominate like the Lakers & Spurs are getting to be on the backside of keeping their core team together and going to have to start either reloading or completely rebuilding soon. Teams like the Thunder & Clippers are starting to ascend so this would be a good time for the Warriors to start positioning for power in the Division again which hopefully we will start to see soon.

Just another way for the owners to justify raising ticket prices once again. Moving to SF won't attract star players unless the team wins consistently first. Look at the Nets. They just moved, but since they're still a crappy team, no stars are going there unless they had assurances from other stars that they want to go there as well. Watch Deron Williams bolt since Dwight Howard is staying in Orlando for another year.

This project will provide millions of dollars in new tax revenue for San Francisco over the long term for services local residents need, including public safety, parks, public transit, pothole repair, youth programs and senior services.
yeah, because all those tax dollars has done wonders for oakland. they make it sound like this arena is the answer to all the city's problems. gimme a break!

“With convenient options for BART, Muni, CalTrain and ferry service, this will be one of the most transit-friendly facilities in the nation,” said Warriors Co-Executive Chairman Peter Guber.
gtfo! like the oakland arena is such a pain to get to via public transit. there is only a whole bart station dedicated to it.

make no mistake. this deal, and all like them, are always about money. al davis might have been an @sshole, but at least he was an honest @sshole and when he moved the raiders (twice) he let it be known that it was for the money. this sugarcoating crap makes me sick.

ESPN reporting that Warriors are trying to retain their pick with Utah at 100%, even though they already have the odds in their favor (72.5% chance of retaining pick). This probably means the Warriors will give up somebody on their roster to Utah just to secure the remaining 27.5% or so chance that they may lose the pick.

I can't possibly fathom why they would want to give away a player essentially for nothing. They would still owe Utah in next year's draft either way. Maybe Bob Myers is really no better than Larry Riley, or the lack of experience or something.

Unless they are trying to dump somebody, which I suspect is the case. They have a logjam at the SF position at the moment, although I believe Brandon Rush will be gone next year. Nobody wants to add more payroll with Richard Jefferson, so I suspect Dorrell Wright might be traded...

Coach Mark Jackson, victim of extortion scheme.

Article taken from Marcus Thompson:

By Marcus Thompson
Thursday, June 28th, 2012 at 11:58 am in Uncategorized.

The Warriors confirmed reports that coach Mark Jackson was the victim of an extortion attempt, which was thwarted by the FBI.

The boyfriend of Jackson’s former mistress, a New York stripper he had an affair with six years ago, tried to blackmail Jackson beginning in April, according to an article on The Smoking Gun. The boyfriend threatened Jackson with releasing compromising pictures and voicemail messages from his effort if Jackson didn’t give him at least $185,000. But as a result of the sting operation by Jackson and the FBI, both the boyfriend and the former mistress were arrested.

Jackson released the statement to CBSSports.com:

My family and I were the victims of an extortion scheme.
The scheme began on April 3, 2012, when the Warriors were in Memphis to play the Grizzlies. A man approached me at the team hotel with personal information which he threatened to sell to a tabloid. At the time, he demanded a substantial sum of money. Regrettably, I paid him. In retrospect, I understand that this was a terrible lapse in judgment and a course of action I would not recommend to anyone.
Following the encounter in Memphis – a little over two weeks later – the extortionist sent an e-mail and phoned my wife, Desiree, making threats and demanding additional money. At that point, I informed the Warriors about the situation and asked for their guidance. We immediately notified the FBI, which promptly began an investigation.
The personal information in the extortion scheme related to a woman that I, mistakenly, had an extra-marital relationship with six years ago – prior to joining the Warriors – when I was a TV sports analyst. I made my wife aware of the relationship at that time, apologized to her and we reconciled. Obviously, my self-centered transgression at that time is not something I’m proud of, but I’m blessed to have an incredible wife, mother and partner and I thank the Lord for her each day.
I recognize the extremely poor judgment that I used both in having an affair six years ago – including the embarrassing communication I exhibited during that time – and in attempting to deal with the extortion scheme at first by myself. I made some egregious errors. I apologize for any embarrassment I may have caused my family, friends and, of course, the Warriors.
At that time in my life, I was not pastoring. Three years ago, my wife and I established a ministry. With deepest regret, I want to apologize to my Church Family.
I was wrong. We must live Holy.

The Warriors also released a statement regarding the extortion.

In response to media inquiries, Golden State Warriors Head Coach Mark Jackson today confirmed that he and his family were the victims of an extortion scheme attempting to blackmail them in exchange for money. The suspects were arrested on June 25 by the FBI.
Jackson informed the Warriors of the extortion scheme in late April – three weeks after his first encounter with the extortionist – and solicited help from the organization. At that point, Jackson and the Warriors immediately contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Although not condoning his previous actions that led to the extortion attempt, the Warriors fully support Coach Jackson during this time and thank law enforcement authorities and the FBI for their prompt assistance in helping Coach Jackson and his family.

Looks like the consensus so far is Dion Waiters with the 7th pick. Don't know if it's a smokescreen or whatnot, with Jerry West liking him, but if he likes him, then let's take him!

Some are saying he's the next Dwayne Wade...
