If I'm not mistaken 1997 was the first year of the active handling chassis control system for corvette.

It basically is programmed to make corrections. Say you're sliding to the left it'll try to correct to the right to straighten out. So if this kid was fighting it then that could only add to the issues. Not to mention it was a first year deal. 11 year old technology and sensors. And an 18 year old kid at the wheel.
