Thanks for the replies guys. Well, I didn't recover any of my old stuff. I had a lot of sketches that I liked in my book and my extHD had some photos. That's what I am most upset about.

But I am getting some reimbursement from my condominium insurance minus depreciation of the items. I can send receipts to my agent when i replace the items and they'll reimburse me depreciation difference. Not bad.

Esurance cut me check for the window which I paid for out of pocket at the time. I can now also replace my windshield which has a looooong crack along where the wipers rest.

Is there a simple, inexpensive alarm that you would recommend? My car is 10 years old now, so I don't need fancy.

 

biggest thing you'll need is a way to tell the thieves to go to the next car, instead of yours.

a good way is to not have anything visible.

is that dont work, a blinking LED is good. granted, it better be hooked up to an alarm in case they test it and nothing goes off (read: fake LED wired to a 9v battery).

i hate the crappy LED that the OEM subaru alarm uses.

on my truck, i have LEDs right on the door, by the plunger. so you cant miss it.
