I hate thieves, I would love to find the little rat bastards and slowly dip them in vats of hydrochloric acid ...
My car was broken into on Saturday the 15th. I had decided to spend pretty much the day in Philadelphia and its environs, so I got up early and headed to the King Of Prussia mall for some shopping (yes, men can shop too). My fiancée was coming down later in the afternoon to look for a dress for some of the weddings we are attending soon, so we figured on meeting sometime around 2 o'clock. So that gave me some much needed time to meander around, check out the scenery and actually go in stores that interested me, so off I went and parked my happy little butt in the Strawbridge's Parking Garage. After spending several hours convincing multiple sales professionals that I was merely browsing and would be sure to advise them when I needed assistance, it was time to meet up with the woman. So off I went to meet her and her friend Nicole. We spent the next several hours going in stores that really had no interest for me but I feigned it well. Then dinner came and we got our grub on at TGI Fridays (YUM YUM). So we parted company at about 6 o'clock as I was now bound for downtown Philly and the Hot Import Nights car show (hey I had free tickets
). I walk out to the parking garage, hit my FOB and I don't hear the magically loud rhinoceros horn blare from my Subaru. At which point, I raise my head from whatever I was reading and realize that my car door is open and my hood is open. Fear and anger assail me as I rush towards my car and find my dash completely annihilated. Frantically, I give the car the exterior visual once over without touching anything and flag down Mall Security who calls the Marion Police. They spend the next few hours combing over my car and tell me that the thieves were wearing gloves so no fingerprints were being lifted. I am sick, I have never felt this sick in my life. I have been violated by someone who doesn't know the morale code that a man's car often means more to him than his own life. I fill out the rest of the paperwork and sadly go my way ...
All in all, they stole my OEM 6-Disc in-dash CD-Player, my factory performance gauge cluster, all the trim (including my vents and my hazard switch ... for some unknown reason???), my CD book with well over 200 CD's in it, my Compaq laptop, my IPAQ 5450, and my frigging Oakley Minutes ... I never made it to Hot Import Nights ...
So I contacted my insurance agent and filed a claim yesterday ... the only thing they are willing to cover is damage done to the vehicle itself as well as replacing the factory head unit ... they asked if I wanted one of their monkeys to do it, which I politely advised them I COULD do myself ... then talking to the claims team on the phone they proceeded to tell me that they would cover $0-$500 for dash damage (to be determined by an adjuster today) + $100 for my factory head unit minus my $100 deductible ... So I called around to dealers today and finally got a dealer to give me a direct quote on the gauge cluster and the head unit ... they informed me it would be $638 for the cluster and $1156 for the head unit with labor coming in at 2.5 hours to fix/replace both items @ about $75.00/hr ... does that seem right to everyone? Just curious ... other than that, I am out like all the rest of the stuff the damn thieves stole ...
Just let me catch them ONCE ...

even worse when it happens in front of your house isnt it?
once upon a time i was at home my girl was doing spring cleaning & of course had the windows open, im walking out, after just waking up, to move a car i had for sale to empty lot @ the corner when i see crackhead (from the crack den one street over) peeking in my windows at my girl & TV VCR & computer. So i get out of the car (probably provoking the horrible end to this story) and get up in this guys face & ask him what i can help him with? after two lameass totally different stories that have nothing to do with what i asked him i shooed him away and told him to never come back because hi sbuddy who used to live there is no longer there, right!?!?!? Well im sleeping like the bear that i am and dont hear him breaking into my ride. Of course the fact that he broke in and i didnt hear the piece of sh***t ungo box i bought the car with pissssss$%d me off even more but this rock head used my tools to carve up my dash to get a stereo sans the faceplate (useless at a pawn shop) took my CDS much like yours & heres the clincher in volvos they have what is known as DLS locks you pull up one llock & it unlocks all of the other doors & the trunk at the same time. well unbeknownst to crackhead theres a box w/1 12" orion & 2 225 HCCA orion amps waiting to be taken but all he sees from the inside of the car are the 6x9's in the rear hatshelf (they are mounted under the hatshelf from inside of the trunk). so a***face decides to try and uninstall them from inside the car. not only does he screw up a perfectly good pair of infinity's he cuts himself in the process & proceeds to bleed alll over my leather interior. so lets recap all he got was a heads unit w/no faceplate a couple of bosch test lights & some nice screwdrivers and a bleeding wrist or hand. he forgot the amps the other speakers & the turbo timer and gauges. im just glad my insurance covered everything unllike yours man.
I just thought id share since you are now part of the got f*7&%ed like chuck club...... any one else want to join?
sad thing is two weeks later my girls best friend parked her new accord in the same spot & they went out clubbing while i stayed home. well low & behold crackhead came back fro a double dose & this time i was ready . I dont like to think about killing people & i was taught at an early age that if you pull a gun you use it to kill not teach a lesson (in other words get it right the first time) so i always keep a loaded shotgun in the house, but the shells are loaded with rocksalt....... big sticky chunks of rocksalt. i waited until he was almost ready to take off w/ the loot ( he had already broken the window so i decided to wait)
& then I popped his *** with both barrels in the gluteus & mid back needless to say i got my just desserts that night sad thing is i never got my sh&*t back!

Stories like this make me glad I live in a small town. That knid of crap doesn't happen around here to often...thank god! I pitty any fools I catch in my car because they are going to be staring down the cold stainless steel barrell of my .357 magnum. Now ask yourself one question...do I feel lucky? Well...do you....punk?

That stinks :-(
Some people can be *******s! Because they can't afford something they have to steal...it makes no sense to me. If we would punish people that steal like chopping off a hand...etc people would think twice about it.
I hope the person is caught though!

Dude that sucks!
I too had my car broken into and the fool(s) only stole my inspection sticker and a portable CD player. I felt violated. Needless to say I hope I never find the punk(s) that did this even though I got my inspection sticker replaced, you still feel like crap when you find your car has been broken into.
Also wanted to let you know if you have home-owners insurance or renters insurance you should be able to get you laptop, CDs, etc. back. Even though it was stolen from your car its covered under most if not all home-owners/renters insurance. It can't hurt to try.

The adjuster was here today ... after he took a look at the damage to my vehicle, and we sat and discussed what was taken, he spent some time on the phones with his local offices and found that there were no wrecked WRX's within the vicinity of my home so they awarded me a cash settlement for the damages, and this is the way it is working out ...
Misc. Console Parts - $303.23
Perf. Gauge Package - $568.00
6 Disc OEM Head Unit - $1156.18
TOTAL FOR PARTS (plus tax) - $2149.05
Labor 2.4 hours @ $38.00/hr (plus tax) - $96.67
TOTAL AWARDED TO CLIENT - $2245.72
LESS DEDUCTIBLE - -$100.00
NET TOTAL - $2145.72
Not too bad, I should be able to get everything back into place for this amount ... Still doesn't replace anything else I lost ... Oh, and for those of you who suggested going to my home owner's/renter's insurance for the remainder, the only problem was my policy didn't get delivered to me until YESTERDAY so it was not in effect over the weekend ... So my laptop, PocketPC, and my Oakleys are a complete loss ... BUT, I talked to the insurance commission on Monday and according to them the letter of the law regarding stolen CD's is that if there is a CD player installed in the car and physically attached (i.e. factory or aftermarket, just not one of those walkman type CD players), the CD's are then considered property of the vehicle and should be covered under your auto comprehensive policy, especially if you are like me and do not even have a CD player in your home with the exception of the one located inside your PC ... So I have to argue this with the claims department, but I am NOT doing so until I get my check for the damage ... So we'll see how that goes ... So that is where I stand right now ... I'll update more as I know more ...

factory pieces are ALWAYS an arm and a leg, and it actually varies by dealerships. Try to get another dealership's price. And one alternative is to talk to the adjusters and maybe settle for aftermarket equipments, maybe a new deck or so....
Usually they don't mind what you do, as long as it's cheaper for them ( or the same place)

i do a lot of rock crawling at a big offroad park in PA. i guide there on weekends so i get all the good stories from lots of different people. there was this very nice girl named holly who wheeled with her hubby.....they both had very nice jeeps!!! holly's was pretty hard core. she had put a lot of wrench time and money into the jeep.....HERSELF!!! that's right, she did all the work!!!! holly had about 20 grand into the jeep.....this thing was indestructable. it had heavy axles and a very nice tranny/transfer case setup. well.........one night (she lives outside baltimore) a whole bunch of kids were out causing mischief.......and they thought it would be funny to start her jeep on fire (NOT FUNNY AT ALL) and in the end........what was left of the jeep was a big hunk of molten sh*t. the frame was the only thing left that was worth anything. the engine was so bad they ditched it and bought as new one. in the end there were three pieces of steel body armor that were salvaged (only because they were 1/4 inch thick) the insurance co gave holly 3500 bucks.....which was what her vehicle was worth. so in the end holly ate about 30 grand because some kids thougt it would be funny to start her car on fire!!!! they did catch two of the little sh*ts and they went to juvie!
since then a lot of the guys at the park have gotten extra insurance on there rigs. ask your insurance co, most of them offer insurance for mods made to the car for a reasonably low cost. i think it was something like 300 more bucks a year for another 10,000 bucks in coverage of aftermarket parts....but that was just my insurance co. later, riggs
