that's really what got me curious about loud exhaust laws in CA.

nice, I will look into it. Thanks for the bit of info though!
Motorcycles and Semis, neither of which are cars, are exempt from sound limits. Anything with 2 wheels and anything over a certain weight basically.

You have to be a resident of that state to use its plates. If you will be here long enough to be a CA resident, you have only a very short period to get your car registered here and it has to be CARB compliant then. That's how a buddy of mine has his V8 Ford Focus, registered in North Dakota, here in CA. Totally not CARB or BAR'ed, but legal because he has a home there and is considered a resident there, he doesn't have to reg here.

FACTORY being the key word there, so it would be exempt.

Mere opinion not fact.

Of course not, though the reason that people run them in the first place is not because of how they sound, but because they (the person) are cheap. Even you have to admit that too many people associate volume with sound quality when it's not really the case.

I've gotten so many compliments on my subies straightpipes haha

I love the way it sounds - that's why I got them...and they aren't that cheap if you buy premanufactured tips to finish the pipe like I did (blast pipes) or if you make it two piece like mine are

Sure, there are definitely those that fall into the cheap category, but straight pipes aren't necessarily loudest -- the Blitz Nur-Spec and the Espilir JGTC500 (remember that one? LOL) were louder. The only sucky aspect of the straight pipe is the warm idle -- sounds a little "wet farty" compared to other exhaust options, but far from "bloody awful".

I have a blitz bur spec on my car atm and have never gotten looked at, but that might be because I have a forester and people don't expect foresters to be loud. However I love the sound and the exhaust.

I kind of have to agree. It's nowhere near a refined noise. It's like e46 m3s. Lol
