Don't run from the cops in Ranch Cordova

They might give you a gift certificate! or a ticket. Its a grab bag of surprises.

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. (AP) Happy holidays please pull over.

Motorists driving through the Sacramento suburb of Rancho Cordova this holiday season may be in for a surprise if they spot flashing red lights in their rearview mirror.

Police have begun stopping law-abiding motorists and rewarding them for good driving with a $5 Starbucks gift card.

One of the police department's traffic officers came up with the latte giveaway to ``promote the holiday spirit and enhance goodwill between the traffic unit and the motoring public,'' police spokesman Sgt. Tim Curran said.

Local businesses donated money to buy the gift cards.

"They raised a substantial amount of money,'' Curran said. "They'll be pulling over a lot of people.''

you know, I've always thought that when I actually drive 65 on the freeway and everyone is flying by me, that'd it'd be nice if one of the cops would slow down from 80 mph and acknowledge my good driving

I was starting to worry that the PD is going to get themselves in some legal trouble until I remembered that they are the PD and do whatever the **** they want

Personally I would **** myself if I was going the speed limit and got pulled over...

I know atleast down here the CHP gives out turkeys to drivers that pass DUI check points sober, but that seems different because you are being inconvenienced anyways with the check point, the rewarding is just wasting time they could use pulling over all the people speeding

i wonder if it would hold up in court as a pre-text stop if something illegal was found in plain view during the traffic stop. weird concept.
