just remember, you are going to pay out the *** for insurance

one way to convince them is take the necessary steps to get a bike

start off by signing up and taking the MSF

get a (preferubly older) friend who rides SAFELY and have him mentor you. someone your parents would respect.

shop around for gear (good gear no nylon mesh jackets or **** like that) and explain to them how much safer it is.

start off on a smaller cc bike.

the new ninja 250r's are gonna be in stock in about 3 weeks, i can't wait to get mine and just beat on it, 250's are fun to ride and they're forgiving, most people who ride 600cc's, 750cc's and over they tend to keep their 250 starters. only problem is i might look a little big and gooffy on a 250 but ehhh, i'm there to learn

I have been reconsidering starting with a ninja before I went on to a 600. I actually looked up insurance pricing (and this is for the 600RR mind you) with decent options and it was like 1500/year. Thats not bad at all and with a ninja that **** would drop. Infact I'll look it up...it would be ~500/year with 500k total coverage for both insured and non insured people injured. With 10k medical payments per person it goes up to like 700.

I'm going to go take the test to get my learners permit and then go take the MSF. Not sure if I'll buy gear unless I know I am getting a bike.

I am on my second r6 and I love yamaha....can't go wrong with it...been riddin for 4years now...Got my first r6 off craigslist, had some mechanical problems(previous owner burned out 2nd gear), so sold that and bought an 05 r6 a couple years ago..awesome bike...love it....600cc is a great bike for all riders new or experienced...dont waste your time with anything lower than a 600cc

I hope this thread doesnt inspire the " Who makes the best Cast for my arm and Who makes the best bodwork for my sport bike" thread.

Please dont try this type of riding on the street.......!

I was thinking of starting out on a used ninja 500cc to learn how to ride.

If I was that reckless on the street with my car I'd be dead. Just because I might get a bike doesn't mean that I've gone retarded. I keep any hard driving / racing for the track.

you can get $80 insurance at Honda Ducati in MV for anybike he said, his is a 64 BSA 650

and dont get black gear, the cars will see chartreuse or orange better if you ever bail on a road and have to scramble across 4 lanes on your hands and knees.

My dad's friend came up on stopped traffic on 17, slammed on the brakes and jumped over the bars and landed on the other side of the k-rail, 1 foot from death.
