I was up at Bear Valley yesterday. Place was a ghost town. No one wanted to face the storm. Snowed pretty much all day. No wind. Got about 6 inches. Found some pretty decent spots and overall just happen to get a day under my legs and get my new set up going.
So far I'm happy with the board and the bindings. Sierra Revers Crew and Burton Malavita.
I need to move my back leg back one hole. Stance was a little narrow but I still smashed it all day. Need to adjust the ankle straps a little bit.
On the way up there I seriously had the greatest save of my life. I will start by saying I was being stupid. I was driving too fast for the conditions. I was doing about 45 or so the whole time which was fine. At some point I shifted in the 4th and was talking to my brother... straighter section of road. I look in my mirror and the truck behind me was way back there and we were hitting some turns so I took my foot off the gas and very smoothly down shifted to try to slow it down a little bit and it just snapped loose.
The first words out of my mouth were very calm.... We're ****ed.
LOL.
Pointing straight at a bank at 55-60mph in the snow on ice. The road conditions were worst possible... hot friday. then the storm came in and it was raining. then snow.
Anyways. I got back on the gas and started modulating the gas petal and counter steering. 3 or 4 whips later I got really pretty much completely sideways and I was waiting for the final hammer blow. I got lucky.... corner. I entered it at the right angle and drifted through the whole corner. Came out on the straight away and just let the car correct itself. Boom... back on the road.
It was seriously gnarly. I look at my brother and said... pound it. Dude smashed my fist like 20 times. We thought we were smoked. I had already said good by to me car.
So yeah guys... be careful careful out there.

Phew! Glad you, Jordan & your wgn came out of it OK.
During a solo trip to The Wood maybe 6 or 7 seasons ago, I broke loose on a straightaway on 88. Bluebird morning in which, unbeknownst to me, the overnite precip was of the "wintry mix" variety. Not good. Unlike y'all, I didn't get sideways or anything.
I was just cruising along & noticed that I was prolly going a hair or two faster than I should be. Now this next statement will sound familiar.
I eased off the gas to downshift, and she slowly drifted into the oncoming lane. Thankfully, I was the only vehicle around in either direction. Plus, the very slight incline helped re-establish traction as I got back on the gas.
So yeah, be careful out there, peeps. Nothing like a very minor "ego check" to set you straight.
Also, awesome you got to test out the new rig. I'm just waiting for my powder day to charge my Bluebird.
How do you like the Malavitas? They're on my short list of binders along w/ Union Asadachis, Ride El Jefes & a couple others.

The unions are high on my list. If I were you I'd go for the SL's though man. I checked out the Asadachis. They had them crazy cheap at the snow expo. I thought they were a bit soft.
So far I am a huge fan of the Malavitas. They're softer than what I'm used to but the backs are tall so it's not bad. I'm actually gonna pull the forward lean I dialed in on them out. The toe straps... I thought I would hate them... I friggin love them in combination with my burton boots. The ankle straps are comfortable but I need to adjust them. I think they're a really nice set of binders.
There are only 2 pairs of bindings I would even consider over them... Union Metafuse and the Union Charger.
I'd consider the SL about on par with the malavita.
I think you'd like them.
And for how cheap they're selling the reverse crews for right now.... anyone that has not tried reverse camber and wants to.... buy one. It's a killer board.

but damn after we got out i was worried my bumper was damaged but luckily it wasn't and i was so relieved. never going to take that road ever again during a storm
I was going less than 30 mph there and the road was too narrow to try and do some crazy sideways stuff and save my car. One of my scariest experiences ever driving in a storm.

I'm daytripping Sierra tomorrow. Hooray Shell 2-for-1's!
Saw a few reports that some mtns got half a foot overnite... give or take. Oh, and it's also supposed to be pretty nipply (
) out there. As in mid 20s for the daytime high. Brrrrrrr.
