I mean, while safety is a priority, most drivers mindset is "i have 4wd or awd" so im safe. Even with this law, it would just push some to drive faster because in essence, these parts gives more traction.

Back in Colorado we have the annual Georgetown Ice Races on Georgetown Lake (small lake in a town about an hour and fifteen minutes into the Colorado front range from Denver). The first weekend is an open practice weekend for anyone with anything on tires, and let me say that the difference in traction attained by having chains on all 4 tires of an AWD/4WD vehicle as opposed to no traction aids at all is a night and day difference. You literally go from sliding in an uncontrollable manner at about 4-6mph to being able to take tight turns at 15-30mph.
Granted I realize a real world circumstance of suddenly losing traction is an entirely different story as it's less an issue of the aid and more an issue of the driver being able to think and react quickly enough to this occurring, but winter speed limits exist for a reason. If a driver chooses to ignore them then I merely consider that society weeding itself out. You can hardly blame the device for someone's blatant disregard for their own safety, let alone the safety of others.

Yea you Will gain traction from chains, but its still just an excuse "oh I've got this and this so im safer than you driving this fast." this is why you see lots of suvs on the side of the road.. LOL
Was supposed to go this weekend but with registration/smog and Xmas.. Not sure I wish to drain my account any further until early January. haha.
Sketchy! haha. Just have an AWD Subaru with you.

That said, I'll be heading up tomorrow AM. My offer still stands to anyone heading up there. NWS has changed the watch to a Winter Storm warning calling for 1-3ft at altitudes below 7000ft and 3-5+ above 7000. Needless to say, it's gonna be an awesome weekend for powder and staying indoors.

This law has been in effect for the last 2 years. The chances that you are asked if you have chains or cables is remote when driving a Subaru. And you can always say, yes they are in the back. It's not the chain control stops you have to worry about, it's the CHP stopping you cause you were a dumbass and got stuck in a ditch and then they'll want to see them.

+1. don't know why ppl are so worried of not carrying chains for legal reasons. for safety that's a diff story. they will probably close the roads before awd cars have to put on chains. just tell em it's in the back and if u have a **** load of stuff in the back they won't bother. like blu said, if u r stupid enough to end up on the side and chp is there then mayb u r screwed lol.

i will be putting the snow tires on after work today and leaving with mt gf tomorrow at 5pm lets hope we make it haha!
If you're headed to South Lake Tahoe definitely take 50 and not 88. I'll be taking 88 but it'll be during the day. The conditions are supposed to get pretty bad after night fall, especially at higher altitudes and 88 goes over Carson Pass. Needless to say, that'd be a **** turn to slide off of at 7pm in the middle of a blizzard haha

what about you?
