I'm heading up to Northstar on Saturday. We'll actually be staying at Silver Legacy Fri.-Sun. I also have an extra 2-for-1 Northstar/Sierra voucher (Shell gas) that I won't be using. Will work for the rest of the season except Saturdays. It's free for whoever wants it, since I'll probably be done for the season after this weekend. PM me.
I dont think we meant 2 much powder, it was 2 much sticky wet powder. I know I didn't think it could happen, but it was so thick even on a steep grade you couldn't keep speed.
I just run it over to anymoutain every 3rd trip or so for hot wax and a tune, its 2 messy to do at home. I dont think all the wax in the would could help that snow though.

You'd be surprised what the right wax can do especially mixed with the right size board. We wax our boards before every trip. It's really not that messy to do at home if you have a garage and a garbage can you can keep nearby to catch the shavings. It makes a huge difference to wax before every trip on the mountain.

If you do the wipe method and not the drip method its not to messy.
Spring wax helps when its wet. I try to keep at least three varieties of wax around usually five. Need to reup.
Yes, wax before every trip if at all possible...I hate going slow in the flats with crap wax.
Funny, in Mammoth a couple of weeks ago I waxed before I left...then on day two I didn't want to hot-wax and I happen to have some Teflon rub-on wax and I was surprised how it felt compared to hot waxing. You just put a few drops on this cloth that's provided with the kit and cover the base 100%...BAMMMMMM You're going 100mph!
I just grabbed the package and its called Zardoz(TM) notwax(TM) ..it was like 9 bucks back in 2001...think I used it like once and forgot I had it until mammoth this season.
Found the web site...: zardoznotwax
Lowball approved!!!!

Zardoz is the isht! I carry a can with me. Sick for groomers. Doesn't last long but you can apply on the hill. Nice for spring when your hot wax is ripped off by 11.
I check my edges w/ a simple test I learned working @ a shop for a few months many, many seasons ago. In a couple spots on each edge, I run my fingernail (from near cuticle to tip) along my edges & see if I can shave off a bit of my nail. Yes: plenty sharp; no; time to re-sharpen.
Btw, I waxed w/ Hertel's Super Hot Sauce (http://hertelwax.com/) before last Sat's trip to Squaw. Even though I noticed some bogging thru all the heavy & sticky stuff, I had no probs in the flats. Others in my group did, but that may be because they hadn't laid on a fresh coat.
And like bluwrxwgn, Lowball & OneManArmy, I wax almost every trip up.
And I've been meaning to pick up some Zardoz NotWax for those spring sessions when all the mucky particulants of late-season snow wreak havov on our bases causing those dreaded unexpected "slamming on the brakes." This is where those cat-like cartwheelin' skillz come into play.
