I've always called boreal "first and worst" haha.

I have a vertical plus double wammy. it's pretty sweet.

I'm sure this has been mentioned already, but if you fill up 10 gallons at participating Shell stations, you get a free Sierra ticket. (edit: buy one get one free)

Sorry, the ticket is actually buy one get one free.

But my brother got one at the Shell station in Davis on Richard's Blvd. It's on the way to Tahoe so that can work.

My friend got one in SF but I can't remember which. You take your receipt to the cashier and they'll give you the coupon.

Here's some sort of evidence:

Worked at the Dublin Shell for me (across the street from Hooters).

Another deal I found...

Slide Boreal For $15? That's Right, Sliders. Friday would be “frickin’ Fridays” at Boreal. $15 lift tickets for anyone with a valid Student, Military or CA State Employee ID.

And...

Sunday, January 24, Boreal Mountain Resort: Skiing for Schools Day. Special, pre-purchased lift tickets are only $25 per person. Limited quantity of tickets available the week prior on a first come, first serve basis at all Porters locations (Truckee, Tahoe City, Incline Village).

http://exined.org/skiing-for-schools

And...

$25 lift tickets for Northstar in April. Have to buy your lift tickets through the link below and they're limited to 1,000 tickets being available.

I haven't gone up this year under chain control but last year went up a few times under chain control and they didn't hassle me. Running Bridgestone RE960AS

I never used to get hassled and my car sits pretty low. Haven't taken it up in a while so I don't know if they have changed their outlook. I just told them AWD, the look at it funny and say ok.

The only problems I would have is snow getting caked up into the wheel well cause there is no place for it to exit. Try cleaning that out when the back is weighted down with all the gear and you don't have much room to even stick your hand in there to clear out the snow.

I don't know about the legacy's, but the WRX's had a tool for the spare tire that had a pointed edge on one side and it was fairly long. So I pulled that out and was using that.
