With iOS you got your updates and what not from one source. With android it is all up to your phone manufacturer. There is no guarantee for how long Samsung plans to support the S3. I just updated my S3 to the latest version of Android out there 4.2.2 and it runs great.

If you look a few posts earlier in which I mentioned the main things to look for when going Android. Manufacturer and Flagship are key.
Appreciate the insight, I saw your post earlier and it confirms some of the research I have done that Samsung is generally pretty good with product support. That disenfranchisement is actually what has kept me away from droid products after AT&T started to carry a wider variety of products. If apple made a larger screen on a phone with a removable battery I would never have even thought about switching from an iPhone.

It has been confirmed that the S3 will get (updated to) the same software as the S4 is released with. So the S3 should still be supported for sometime more.

IMO the S4 is not worth the hardware specs over the 3. And since the 3 will get all the same software at some point... why not get a 3 for cheap?

I totally agree but there's also an advantage to aosp.. You literally get the latest builds since its pretty much directly associated with Google

Exactly what I was thinking, I won't ever use my phone in a way that the extra price is justified for me for the "faster" phone. I just need to figure out if I want to go with the s3 or note 2......or see if apple gets their head out of their asses and makes a bigger phone, although that is highly unlikely.

Oh. Well ****. Maybe I'll look into the AOSP 4.2.2 build later on down the road. Right now I'm enjoying the AOKP build

AOKP is good don't get me wrong.. Its all under what you prefer. I suggest you just try a bunch of different ROMs and see what you like.

normal G OS with the carriers bloat installed.

There are ROMs that are more "pure" Google.

AOKP ROMs can have some pretty slick add ons tho too

ugh. I rooted to run ROMs with no bloat. I'm happy with what I got and will leave it as is. Looking for an international Galaxy Nexus to play with though.
