This is all with hard use email/sms/music/web all day. Still been a solid rom though. Are you using the stock Kernal and Radio with AOKP? If it'll improve things i'm willing to try it out. The kernal isn't such a big deal but the reception is.
I know of CleanROM and the Lean Kernel that comes with it. My buddy is able to get the most time out of his and he is a heavy user. I used to only be able to get a day out of the AOKP as well, however after I installed Screen Filter it helped out since the screen brightness is notorious for destroying battery life. With Screen Filter enabled my battery usage for the screen dropped in about half if not more and the majority of my battery usage at that point became cell standby. I can squeeze two days out of my phone with the stock battery, but I don't have reception in my office at work so I spend a good chunk of the day without reception unless I go outside which I do quite often.

I had gone from AOKP to Liquid Smooth and that ROM has a lot of kinks to workout in my opinion. AOKP is the more stable ROM.

How easy is it to root an S3? I don't want to brick mine. All I want to do is turn off TouchWiz and run vanilla Android 4.1.2 or higher ad have NFC and Google Wallet access. Nothing fancy ( for now )

unless you run into the famous eMMC brick so be sure not to format your partition aka format data/system if this bug persists in your phone. You can see if you have this bug using chainfire's app on the market.

Install twrp its the best IMHO. Cwr is good too but I think twrp is nice. Before installing a ROM clear cache/delvik 3x in twrp as well as install any upgraded radios for the ROM.

Cache is cleared. I was looking at this and it says I need a clockwork compatible kernel for it to work https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...9tbWFuYWdlciJd

I used this method to root

[Beginners Guide] Rooting the AT&T GalaxyS3 the Easy Way - xda-developers

this is definitely going to take some time to learn

Edit: OH **** SON!!! Flashed Build 6 of http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...949025&page=41

Edit 2: Oh **** I'm stuck on the Boot animation.

Edit 3: ****......... It's alive.....

Go under advanced settings and you can installed open script recovery (twrp) its much more user friendly IMHO and will make it so you can't brick a thing haha. I'm a ROM developer for the sg3vzw and even I bricked a phone doing something stupid on my galaxy nexus which caused the emmc brick (fixable but not worth the effort). Also if you want something close to stock ROM I personally run jelly beans build 14 and you can customize it to anything you want with the aroma installer. I've done my own ROMs for my galaxy nexus and did one for the sg3 and his is by far the smoothest I have tested so far. Build 15 is dropping soon I suggest you try it out.. Its multi carrier

Always a golden rule, if you are unsure about something ASK.
