Textin is illegal. Not specifcally mentioned but citable. HANDS FREE NUMB NUTS. WHAT PART ABOUT TXTING IS HANDS FREE. Im at work i clubbin it on my cell and will have to look it up lateq but i believe the language goes" any handheld eletronic communication device in use for ANY form of communication must be supported a handsfree device. That means txt communication is under that law. As is walkie talkies and othes radio communication devices. So if u can send smoke signals or s.o.s. With headlights ur ok. Other than that u arent supposed to use ur cell unless ur hands free

When I was watching the news when this law first came into affect, someone said that you were not supposed to hold it to your ear. And that was what they were looking for.

hands free is useless for one specific reason.

There is no research showing that it reduces the hazards of being on the phone while driving and there is no research showing that talking on the phone is any less dangerous than talking to someone in the car.

Bottom line... pay attention to the damn road idiots.

I once banned someone on NASIOC from my truck so I guess I'm guilty.

That said, I rarely talk on the phone while driving. I rarely talk on the phone at all, but more so when I drive. I have a bluetooth in one car and a plug in thing in another. They stay in the car. If I REALLY need to make a call I'll use my hands free device. Otherwise I pay very careful attention to what is going on around me. Between driving and watching for idiots trying to crash into me there is plenty to do without discussing the weather or what I'm going to have for dinner.

I've also noticed people appear to be driving worse because they're trying to be stealth about their calls.

yesterday i saw a woman driving fast, talking on the phone while holding it by hand, looking in the mirror and putting on mascara. if that is not scary, then what is.

I got the actual CHP release posted at my office; its yellow and informative, & texting is not listed as citeable.

The State Legislature has to write a new piece of legislation to include texting. Once they gets the more important job of passing a budget now coming up on 80 days late, then they can get back to passing more revenue generating traffic laws.

Is it disagreeble that I text while driving, sure....to half the public. But I'm a big boy, I can admit my foibles. Nobody can honestly say they've never evar done anything at least questionable behind the wheel. So in the end we are all 'ridin dirty' a little bit. I've yet to get popped for talking/texting on my phone because I'm smart enough to keep it on the DL.

However; kicking up a dust cloud whilst off-roading in broad daylight, right off a road that San Mateo County Sherrif patrols...not so much on the DL eh Ivan Stewart.

i agree that driving has gotten far worse since the law took effect. its because people are trying to get away with it and are more worried about hiding it than concentrating on driving.
I wouldnt doubt it people are getting pulled over for suspicion of drunk driving rather than being on their phones.

i spend a lot of time talking in my car, since the just about the only time i have during the day to take care of my personal things like dr appts, family things etc....but also because i do a lot of business on the east coast and need to call them before i get to work.

i used to think bluetooth was stupid and made made people look stupid, but now i use it all the time and I look stupid because mine is so comfortable i forget its in my ear and walk around all day with it hahaha Id rather look stupid to people i dont know and will never see again and could care less what they think of me and be safe.

i think my biggest driving flaw tho is driving with my knees. long legs = easy turning on the freeways with no hands.
