How about an organization for tuners against illegal street racing. Plates, stickers, id cards. Something to help us show the guy that pulls us over that we support the fight against street racing. might get one or two of us out of a state ref citation.
even if we support a fight against illegal underground racing, we still have modified cars. I think how the police see it is "modified car=street racing...no modified cars=no street racing" seeing as we're talking about a big organization (the police) they arent going to sway their thoughts on this matter because of logic. And for the most part cops arent going to let you get away with breaking the law beause you support them in stopping other people breaking the law

I think the biggest issue is people getting pulled over in stock STi's for suspected modding (wtf? suspected modding? that's sad) and stuff like that. I show my support with a NASA sticker which says, keep it on the track. Of course most people miss the "National Auto Sport Assoc" line and think of space, but whatevas...

I think if some wide open areas were made into autosports parks with a 'use at your own risk' caveat and some pretty strict rules about how many people at a time that would help a lot. Sorta like a skate park but for cars. Have a cop there so these dudes can learn more about what does what, which will help stop the wrong people from getting pulled over in the long run. I dunno.

I'd waste so much gas there :-\ I think thats actually a good idea. Maybe the government should pressure race tracks into having more open days for car club members and make them cheaper than most of the registration fees cost...and a "drive at your own risk policy" too. I that it would crack down on people racing on the street. I mean I know there are scca days at race tracks...but take Laguna Seca for example, its $300 for 2 days, and teenagers cant dish out that kind of money for 2 days on a track....street racing for free (nless youre caught) sounds much easier.

The thing is, race tracks' overhead is WAAY too high with staff, insurance, etc. It costs around $5k to rent T-Hill for a day last time I checked and I am sure that has gone up. Laguna is out because it's a historical landmark, and the noise issues there would hamper things as well. History has shown us that if you give people a place to do something they will be more likely to do it there... Seems like it could work with enough large disclaimers... I'd be down.

Laguna already puts out a lot of noise...I'd rather listen to more cars than that 3-day christian music festival they just had

yeah, i hear laguna seca every weekend from my house. all those high horsepower cars are pretty freakin loud, but i really dont think any of us are that loud. noise wouldn't be an issue there.

Car Info: '05 STI
I've been pulled over no less than 5 times since I've put plates on my car....just for looking modded. 3 times for the wing and 2 times because my exhaust was loud. Completely stock '05 STI. I was pulled over 3 times the first week I had my car because I didn't have plates on it. I didn't mind that then, because they were just checking if the car was stolen I guess, but after talking to my dad who wasn't ever pulled over and didn't put plates on his Dodge Durango for almost 8 months due to lazyness...I was a little upset.

Loud Exhaust - No exhaust on any car I've ever heard on the street comes anywhere near being as loud as 90% of the straight pipe American motorcycles I've heard. It's ok for a Harley to rattle your house when it drives by, but city be damned if a subaru is heard more than a block away.

Large Rear Spoiler - Yes it's true that the STI wing blocks about 4 inches of the rear window, but that is nowhere near as bad as having a truck with a camper shell on the back or a van with no windows in back. If you have two functional sideview mirrors you should be able to spray paint the rear window black for all I care.

Tinting - so, I guess sunglasses have become illegal while driving at some point in time?

What other reasons are they giving you for being pulled over? If you're speeding you should get pulled over, if you fail to stop/yield you should be pulled over, if your headlights/tailights/turn signals don't work you should be pulled over, if you're swerving/cutting lanes quickly/tailgaiting you should be pulled over. I have no reason to argue against those things, but I'd like them to cut the crap with the other stuff.

My friends in Germany tell me that more people get pulled over there for impeding the flow of traffic...I'd like that system here. Look at the statistics of DUI/DWI accidents and deaths VS street racing and wonder why your money is going into street racing for a minute...then look at the revenue from emissions infractions and speed contest type tickets VS the revenue from DUI fines and you might see something. More people are hurt and killed because of alcohol/drugs on the road than people are affected by street racers, yet they're spending more time/effort/money on the latter?

How come they don't crack down on Harley riders that are way over the legal db levels. I almost feel like running them off the road sometimes. 99% of them are $hitty riders anyways.

Because most police either ride harleys or have friends who do.

If you are lucky.. youll find a cop who likes bikes when you get pulled over on a sportbike. Often cops who like bikes wont even give you a second glance when you pass them doing a few miles over the speed limit (more than them). If you are unlucky.. youll run across a redneck cop who likes harleys but hates Japanese bikes becuase of some illogical, naive, misplaced american patriotism.

Ive met both kinds.

Because the Harley is an American icon?

Alternatively, maybe the cops don't dare approach a group of Harley riders for any reason.

The difference is most people remove their sunglasses at night.

I do agree that there is a lot of pointless ticketing going on though. Getting stopped in a stock STI can only be one (or both) of two reasons: ignorance on the part of the cop, or harassment. I think the problem here is that they focus on reasons to issue tickets rather than working with people to promote safety and responsibility. This is typified by the flagrant way that the cops ignore traffic rules at their convenience when they should be leading by example.

Tinting is fine as long as its not on the front 3 windows, this is done for the safety of the cops. it would be really sucky if u were a cop and walked up to a car with black tinted windows not know if the person is pointing a gun to you.

Bikes should be loud so that they can be noticed by cars another sh*t on the road that can run them off the road...

But the thing that always pissed me off was the idea that mods should be illegel because their eye catching and will distract other drivers.... BUT sh*t if i drove a super car thats un modded and not speeding or anything i can bet u 100000000000000000 monkeys that everyones going to look at it... or i can drive a POS with a crap load of bird sh*t and random legal things on it and people will still look at it...

I think the only way that we can stop cops from fu*king with people driving cars is if everone drove the same car, same color, same style. But whats the point of living if everyone was the same as the person next to them? if only i (or someone that can think for a sec about things) ran the world.....
