Tire upgrade with stock whls?
I've got the oem 16" rims on a wrx sedan and I've narrowed down my tire choices to the Kumho V700 series, Ecsta MX or ASX, and Falken Azenis. Anyone have recommendations? I'm looking into 225/50R16 or comparable sizes.
And as sidenotes:
Does anyone know the diff btw the victoracer v700's and ecsta v700's? they obviously have diff tread patterns, but how do the performance of each tire compare?
Also, does anyone know how the Ecsta MX/ASX's stack up to the Falken Azenis?

thanx for the input, but i think i'm leaning towards the victoracers because i want max performance, comfort be damned! i'll put up with the harsh ride and lack of wet traction. i dunno how long the victo's will last but i've heard they last about a year btw autoxing and driving on the street.

daily driving on victoracers with auto-xing you will be buying new tires every couple months. the victoracers will get eaten up so fast driving on the street. and don't expect to drive in any rain as you will surely die

hrmm... ok i will def keep that in mind... v700s aren't a terribly great idea for all around tire but i just don't have the cash to get another set of rims and tires. maybe i'll just save up for some 17x8" with 245s

I'm telling you, DO NOT get the Azenis ST115's if you plan on driving on wet pavement! Unless you enjoy hydroplaning dozens of yards upon hitting puddles, go for the FK451's. Its dry pavement performance is almost on par with the Azenis, but its wet performance is VASTLY superior. I would suggest Azenis's for tracking or strict Auto-X, but not as daily driven tires unless you live in an area that rarely gets moisture on the roads.
I also forgot to mention that the Kumho MX has had issues with the consistency of its manufacturing quality. There are some sets that are excellent (some claim that it is nearly on par with Potenza S-03's), while other sets are so poorly manufactured that there are little better than the RE92's in some opinions. There are also others than complain about the lack of overall feedback, both tactile and audible, from the MX's.
I just wanted to spread the information I culled from researching for a new set of tires recently (for reference, I ended up getting the Potenza RE750's because they was a special on them at the time; otherwise, I would have gotten the FK451 -- a likely choice for my next set of tires).
