850's will likely be a bit too small. 1000's or 1200's should do ok with that turbo. The problem, as you guys said, is the poor selection of side feeds. We've been testing some DW 1000cc sidefeeds and they're working very well. We've been bugging them about a real release date, but haven't heard anything concrete yet. Although I know they are trying to get them out ASAP.

The other option is the injector dynamics conversion kit. Their 2000cc injectors are VERY nice and the conversion kit looks pretty damn nice. The only problem is that you will still have to make all your own lines to fit up to their rails. This will add on quite a bit of cost to an already relatively expensive setup. But if you have the money, that's the route I would go.

Guess Ill be awating awhile for sidefeed DW 1000cc injectors. Hope that they come out with them soon though. Ive seen that conversion setup and it does look really nice. They also have the plug and play option for a little more so you dont have to deal with splicing any wires.

Yep that's the one. And you don't actually have to splice any wires anyway. You can just de-pin and re-pin the connectors .

Hi Ed,
Which of your tuning options might suit my needs best: 09 WRX with Cobb catted DP, stock CB exhaust for now (will either stay with the stock CB or SPT or some other quiet system-liking the fact that it's just as quiet as stock right now). This is a daily driver 25-30k miles a year and want safety and reliability-yet still more fun than stock I am currently running the ots Cobb stage 2 map for now. I know you recommend a MBC, would there be much of a disadvantage without it? Also an upgraded fuel pump may be needed. Let me know, thanks.
And did Johndabrit get tuned with the Perrin TMIC yet? I sold it to him.

I generally recommend the complete custom tune, especially for the newer platforms as I don't have as much of a map base for them.

The MBC has very significant advantage in response and drivability as well as boost consistency and stability. We can certainly tune with out it, but its a great mod for the money and why we recommend it so highly. A fuel pump is a very good idea as well. About 40% of the cars end up needing one at stage 2 power levels anyway.

John is waiting on the new turbo before the tune.

Thanks

Ed tuned my 2010 STI last week. Relevant mods, both installed for the tune:

- high-flow catted downpipe
- Hallman MBC

The response from the turbo is so much better it almost makes the factory setup feel like a joke. Stock it felt like the ECU wouldn't let the turbo spool unless I was deep in the throttle, even at higher RPMs. Passing in particular was often frustrating and sometimes unsafe.

The added power is great too, and is very obvious on the freeway and empty side roads. But it's the better response that really stands out everywhere, at any speed.

Here's the before (completely stock) and after curves.

- 91 octane
- ambient temps around 81-82F
- final MBC setting of about 18-18.5 PSI

Ed said the stock tune was maxing out the injectors making that beastly 198whp, which explains why I'm now getting about 2 extra MPG on my commute, in addition to the 58 extra WHP. (Actual mileage, not relying on the trip computer's MPG reading.) I know nobody with an STI is terribly concerned about mileage, I just find the difference amusing

Thanks Matt. I'm glad you're enjoying the tune! Your car was one of the lowest stock baseline STI's I've seen to date!

I will 2nd this, the MBC is quite possibly one of the most important mods for a good stable tune as Ed's proven time and time again on many different vehicles.

They generally average 215-225whp on my software, but I've seen a couple of 08-10 STI's now that are right in the 200-205whp range bone stock.

Thanks
