Oaf,

I didn't get a email that you'd responded. I 'DEP'd-in' in OCT I think. I hit the reception station on 17 NOV.....you cherry.

BUFFING THE FLOOR! Worse, we'd buff it, but since our 'mascot' (we were the Patriots) was painted in the center, we weren't allowed to walk on it. We had to tiptoe and climb on bunks to get around.

Then we hit Christmas Exodus and when we got back, we moved over to Sandhill....which I'd looked forward to until I got there. It was so cold and ominous. I never thought I'd miss Harmony Church, but I really did.

I did go back to Harmony Church for my 1st phase of DS school back in 1993. That was actually a very cool 'homecoming'. Of course we didn't have to buff the floors, neither.

You know something funny about the Exodus was that I was in 3 bus wrecks when I was enlisted. The first one was at 0345hrs on the day they let us leave. We got on the bus and I guess the driver fell asleep and drove off of a bridge. Ha ha ha. The other two wrecks weren't so bad (they happened after I got to Ft Ord) but in one of the other two, we did flip over.

Oh yeah, Harmony Church is completely gone now.

I know that the folks who come into this thread either support or don't support the two wars we have going on, but I am just getting sick and tired of the media. They say they're only reporting what the 'people' want to hear. BULL****!

No matter what we do over there. No matter how many bridges we build or fix. No matter how many villages we build wells for or bring indoor plumbing to or electricity to. No matter how many children's lives have been saved through our 'MEDCAPS' (medical and chaplain expeditions). No matter how many schools we build. No matter how many successful operations we conduct. No matter how many insurgents, many high ranking, that we kill or capture.........we just can't seem to do anything right.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor..._re_mi_ea/iraq (....here is the Free Republic analysis of same article.)

You know, from all of the infamous pundits or even from all of the tremendously liberal periodicals and blogs, I expect to see absolutely hostile criticism and non-support, whether their opinions and ideals are based on truth or delusion, but that article is from an AP writer!

Wouldn't a better headline be something like,

US Attack on Tal Afar a Critical Success in Anti-Insurgency Campaign, AP --
About 5,000 Iraqi soldiers, backed by a 3,500-strong American armored force, reported 156 insurgents killed and 246 captured. The force discovered a big bomb factory, 18 weapons caches and the tunnel network in the ancient Sarai neighborhood of Tal Afar, 60 miles east of the Syrian border.

The campaign objective is deny safe-haven to insurgents utilizing Syria as a jump-off point. Obviously insurgency attrition is of great benefit, but our forces are oriented towards denying geographic advantages the insurgents have been taking for granted, namely Iraqi cities near the Syrian border and into the Euphrates River Valley. Syria is and has been restricted access for US and Coalition forces due to a very strict set of rules of engagement.

Since Iraqi and US objectives are clearly terrain, not enemy oriented, the Iraqi Defense Minister, Sadoun al-Dulaimi has stated the follow-on objectives for the Iraqi/US-back force, "After the Tal Afar operation ends, we will move on Rabiyah (on the Syrian border) and Sinjar (a region north of nearby Mosul) and then go down to the Euphrates valley," al-Dulaimi said.

"We are warning those who have given shelter to terrorists that they must stop, kick them out or else we will cut off their hands, heads and tongues as we did in Tal Afar," al-Dulaimi said, apparently using figurative language." [gpatmac editorial: figurative, my ear...er, I mean, yeah, right.]

But gpatmac, the only reason that there are bad guys...I mean, freedom fighters... in peace-loving Iraq making bombs is because the US invaded Iraq.

It's always our fault. I guess it's the strain of being a world leader.

You know, I think I do understand where our 'enemies' are deriving their motivation. They feel like their corner of the world should be controlled or governed or whatever...by non-westerners. Now, I don't think that they feel like everytime they see a Coke or a McDonalds or Playstation or MTV that these things are all just preludes of our intended empire (although, hasn't that thought crossed your mind with regards to everytime you hear about some Japanese company buying some major, intrinsically American corporation?)

I don't think any of this, to include the terrorism, is because those who are in power within the Talibani/Al Queda regime feel like Big Macs in the UAE are a signal of the Apocalypse or American world domination; they're just doing what it takes to regain control. Their number one weapon is indoctrination based on lies and exageration, and extreme rhetoric that is convincing enough to influence quite a few people to willing turn themselves into a 'smart bomb'.

LOL. Immediately following graduation from Dco 2-19 (Ruffnecks Roster #447) our drill sergeants marched everyone with an Airborne/RIP contracts up to Bco 2-58 because cadets had priority in BAC during summer vacation. Families had come to take us back home for our now-denied 2 week leave. It was a mess and people were pissed. Instead, my Mom stayed in Fayetteville for 4 days and took me and an assload of my buddies to dinner every night. She must of spent well over $500 each night and even rented a van. Positively kickass Mom. She sweet talked the SFC looking over us by stressing the fact she was a cell-phone call away. I was there for two damn months with everyone I had graduated basic from.

The SFC DS looking over us was awesome. All he asked of us was to keep the barracks clean, stay away from the recruits, and do PT twice a day (once on our own during the evening), and be at the accountability formation by 2100. I used to opt for that ½ mile track over the ridge. Was kickback as hell but the most boring time EVAR because we weren’t supposed to leave Sandhill. They needed us within arms reach because the BAC blackhats could call on us to fill slots anytime. Hurry-up and wait bull****. I don't miss those times whatsoever...

our "cultural" imperialism is infact one of the motivating forces of the modern fundamentalist.

sort of ties into their neo luddite view of the world..
