Fallen Marine May Get Medal Of Honor
SAN DIEGO -- A Marine who was mourned during a special ceremony Tuesday could be in line for the Medal of Honor, his friends said.
Sgt. Raphael Peralta, 25, has already been posthumously awarded the Purple Heart for actions in Fallujah, where he threw himself onto a grenade to save the lives of fellow Marines, according to The Army Times.

Yeah, because it's local news for SD. But it still made it onto the MSNBC page...again, I'm not trying to detract from the valor of the soldier here, but stop painting the entire media as some anti-American establishment that's out to hide the stories you think are important.
Local news can be mainstream too...

Haha you just linked the the same affiliate group from MSNBC's local news section. Notice how it says "NBCSanDiego.com" icon in the top right of the webpage?
Now show me where this story is on MSNBC's main homepage here:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/
You know, the page that has the most mainstream stories...
Now if the grieving parent of this Marine was anti-war then there wouldn't be any question about it being on the front page.
Just because the New York Times has a lawnmower for sale in it's classified section doesn't make it "main stream media."

My bad for high jacking this thread...I really didn't mean to. But I think what we have here is a difference in the definition of mainstream media. To me, NBC and all it's affiliates are mainstream. Local news is main stream. Non-mainstream media would include such things as your beloved drudge report and other non-corporation-affiliated (usually small) media outlets. When I watch the local news on TV, I consider it main stream media don't you? So in this way, the story you posted is, in fact, main stream media. Perhaps you meant to say "Don't expect to read or hear about this in YOUR local news (unless you live in SD) or on national news."

I'll agree with that statement for sure.

This couldn't be further from the truth. There's a reason why a newspaper has a front page and a less significant story on page A15.

Like I said, signifigance of the story has NOTHING to do with weather it's main stream or not...mainstream only describes the source (as in who wrote it, who published it, etc). Anyway, I'm done arguin symantics on this one...we can both agree that more people should be exposed to this news story.
