can i add this to all the "getting into heaven" thing.
i consider myself to be a good person, i know whats right and wrong, etc etc.
so later when i die without beliving in god, i goto hell?
if god wishes to send me to hell for not beliving in him, yet i live a good life helping others and doing things that are right, then that's a god that doesnt deserve my attention. this is one insurance i have on why i'm an athiest. i believe what i want because its what makes more sense to me and if god wants to punish me for doing what i believe, so be it.
so if he does send all athiests to hell no matter how they lived, that just says "believe in god or you will be damned to hell". obey the higher being, follow his rules, etc...doesnt this sound more like monarchy? as in a way to govern a society?
i'm only talking about one perspective of religion, i'm not basing all religion on this.

Then one of those lolJesus pics will be made of the situation and be laughed about

Joel 3:8 “I will sell your sons and your daughters to the Judians, and they shall in turn sell them to the Sabeans, to a people far off.”
1 Tim. 6:1-2; “Let slaves regard their masters as worthy of all honor."
Matthew 10:24 and John 13:16 tell us that slaves are never better than their masters.
Titus 2:9-10 “Be submissive to your master and give satisfaction in every respect."
Ephesians 6:5 and Colossians 3:22 “Slaves obey your master."
Both the 4th and 10 commandments recognize slavery and thus give it tacit approval.
john 15:6 "Unless a person abides in me, he is thrown away like a pruned branch and dries up. People gather such branches, throw them into a fire, and they are burned up"
shall i continue?

As a consequence for their wickedness, God says if he's going to get even, that's what he would have to do to get even.
Joel 3 (New International Version)
Joel 3
The Nations Judged
1 "In those days and at that time,
when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,
2 I will gather all nations
and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. [a]
There I will enter into judgment against them
concerning my inheritance, my people Israel,
for they scattered my people among the nations
and divided up my land.
3 They cast lots for my people
and traded boys for prostitutes;
they sold girls for wine
that they might drink.
4 "Now what have you against me, O Tyre and Sidon and all you regions of Philistia? Are you repaying me for something I have done? If you are paying me back, I will swiftly and speedily return on your own heads what you have done. 5 For you took my silver and my gold and carried off my finest treasures to your temples. 6 You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks, that you might send them far from their homeland.
7 "See, I am going to rouse them out of the places to which you sold them, and I will return on your own heads what you have done. 8 I will sell your sons and daughters to the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans, a nation far away." The LORD has spoken.

1 Timothy 6 (New International Version)
1 Timothy 6
1All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered. 2Those who have believing masters are not to show less respect for them because they are brothers. Instead, they are to serve them even better, because those who benefit from their service are believers, and dear to them. These are the things you are to teach and urge on them.
So... the slaves are to forgive their masters of their sin and serve them... treating them better than they deserve to be treated because that is what Christ would have done...

Matthew 10 (New International Version)
Matthew 10
Jesus Sends Out the Twelve
21"Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. 22All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 23When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
24"A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub,[c] how much more the members of his household!
26"So do not be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 27What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny[d]? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. 30And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
32"Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. 33But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.
Once again, nice try but the context teaches forgiveness and understanding of those who are against you.
If you want me to continue with the others about slavery, I will. I just think that I've proved my point with the examples above...

John 15 (New International Version)
John 15
The Vine and the Branches
1"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. 8This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
Shall I continue?
thats allot of words. how many of them were actually written by jesus? how many of them were written by james, luke, or mark? how many of those words were written by people who knew james, luke or mark?

the texts you worship were written 350 years after the approximated time of the man named Jesus.
David Koresh's words are more relevant then these.

no, i'm saying i want to live my life following what i believe. if in the end, all this afterlife and such are true, i dont understand why i would feel like a dick because there is NO WAY OF TELLING IF THERE IS AN AFTERLIFE(of course except for the bible, which is hard for me to believe as an actual story). i only follow what i know and that says afterlife cant be proven there for possibly not exist.
my friend once told me that i should put faith in god because it doesnt hurt me at all and if heaven exists, i have a little insurance to goto heaven for believing in god. but what's the point acting like i believe in it when i really dont. i dont want to lie to myself just to get into heaven, if it exists. and wont god know if i'm acting or not?

I hate to say it but your not the only person that has gone through suffering in this world. No one escapes suffering in this life. We all go through some pain, sadness, and adversity.
From what I understand this includes those that believe in whatever higher power they presume to follow.
To stake a claim that there is no greater power based on your suffering is your right, but I think it is a weak claim to try to "dis-prove" the presence of a God as most religions never claim that by believing you will be free of pain and hardship.
ya really.
Well clearly i'm not as hardcore as you are. I couldn't see Jesus arguing in a thread like this either, but nobody's been perfect the past 2009 years.
You can pretend like you were lucky all you want, but don't deny the possibility of some divine intervention saving your life.
My mom is diabetic, has had 2 kidney transplants and pancreas. She was on Dialysis (with thin blood) got called to LA for her 2nd kidney, operation...internal bleeding (thin blood) heart attackx2 during the whole surgery and she made it. You can call it luck if you want, but i'll give credit to something greater and actually show my appreciation if it just so happened that the holy spirit took over and saved her.
Just keep rubbing that lucky rabbits foot and im sure you'll be fine
"is supposed to bring" he hasn't brought it yet. When he does, are you comfortable with what may happen to you?
of course i care, but im not gonna push it on people and dont like arguing about it.
yes it was, forgive me for replying to a thread within 2 seconds and not thinking about what i post. It's kinda what i do
He gave Adam and Eve a chance didn't he? and they screwed it for the rest of us. don't blame God for that. it's all sinful man.

Like i said, i posted the very first reply without thinking and its just what came out, i spent no more than 5 seconds to even think about it.
I dont think i'm better than anyone in anyway...well it's fun to beat STi's in the dirt...but thats as far as it goes
I love my best friend who i consider "lost" and i love him.
I would save every persons life in this thread from a burning building if i could.
I dont know what else i can say. Other than before this thread even happened, i knew which side most members would be on just by their replies of the past...funny how that works?
...speaking of generalizations

Have I been out of line or rude so far? There is a difference between being a Good Christian and a Nice Christian that get's walked on. Standing up for what you believe in doesn't make you bad and I have done so respectfully

And good man, we can't save people... only Jesus can. We can just try to make him known to those who don't know him or have been told lies
