Novels are not taught as right or wrong, novels are taught as a literary instrument and used to tach students how to analyze a piece of literature, the content is not taught as right or wrong, but rather shoudl be used to sparks a discussion in class as to the intent of what the author was in writing a specific piece.

Well i DID look at both ends of the issue. The clip from the maine (or was it massachusetts...) couple that had their kids taught their lesson from king and king. Also from teachers associations assurances that it won't be taught at schools as an ideology or to promote the LBGT lifestyle. Also from friends who are against the idea because they thought marriage was supposed to be a title for man and woman and from co-workers who had gay friends made fun of and one comitting suicide because of not being able to live within their communities. What it came down to me was an issue of trust in the school board that they will teach.. Not promote or enforce their ideologies from personal beliefs.

When I was going to school, in general, people were still not comfortable coming out of the closet, so it wasn't really part of any subject matter having kids being taught about LBGT issues or have lessons revolving around that. Whenever it was heard that somebody was gay, it would spread like wildfire, mainly in a negative light. I personally didn't think of it too hard to be honest back then.. Just went around to arcades playing street fighter 2 and being a normal band geek.
