n00b engine/wheels mod advice - be kind!
Hello, my first post on the forums, be KIND.
I just crossed 6k miles on my 2002 WRX (silver, no tail if you must know) and I am looking for a little more boost.
I have NO INTENTION of violating ANY part of my warranty on engine, trans or otherwise!
So, here's my n00b question: what sort of mods can I make to my WRX which would be 1) noticeable in terms of performance and 2) NOT scrap my warranty!
Please decode your reply from tech-speak if at all possible :-) I can talk cars with the best of them, but turbocharged engines are new territory to me.
Also, I am open to exhaust mods, but only if they don't increase the noise of the car -- I don't want to sound like one of those ****ty little turbo-deprived Civics or CRXs with a pipe the diameter of a coffee can... :-)
TIA
Michael

You should ask the dealership where you bought the car - some dealerships don't mind working on modded cars and there are some that even sell mods themselves. You could probably get away with it as long as your new stuff doesn't cause any damage, but some dealers can be real sticklers!

Well, I talked to the mechanic at the dealership. He said that I could do air filters/intake mods and exhaust mods that only involve the very end of the exhaust system (muffler only). He ruled out manual boost control, messing with the computer system in any way or altering the fuel/air mixture.
I understand these limitations; it seems extremely easy (from what I have heard from friends who tried to mess with Acuras and Integras) to screw up the boost and fry your valves or cylinder heads.
So, anyone have advice on wheels/tires? I have the stock wheels and some incredibly generic garbage dealership tires; there has to be something that would at least make it FEEL faster :-) I notice that the WRC Scoobys use Pirellis...

I would say: Samco intercooler hoses, intake silencer remover, Cat-back exhaust (100% legal), and maybe pullies... If you want to be shady, re-flash the stock ECU
30hp gain and they couldnt tell
