Right. Too many people are too hooked on this import craze instead of actually tuning a car. The "original" WRX guys (willing to bet they were all x dsmers at the time) were damn near touching 12's "stock" with some tweaking and minor bolt ons. It is about how you apply the mods, not what mods the 1000 hp supra in the magazine has.

12 sec. sleeper? nah there will be some give aways... 
my wrx is stock on the outside 'cept eyelids. but i have the aps 650 fmic (yes the biggest for 02 wrx), 3.5" t/b aps exhaust, and the rest... we'll just have to race!

Aside from exhaust (and even that depends on how you do it), there should be no external hints to it being modded if you are in the 12's. If you plan on *low* 12's, high 11's- MAYBE an FMIC would be nice, but if you can't do it with the stock IC or an upgraded stock location IC, then something is wrong

yes, you can- it has been done repeatedly. I just don't know where the new mentality comes from that everything has to be changed on the car just to run a 12 sec. time. The tires would be beneficial to change though- they don't hook worth a damn lol.
