wow, you guys pay a lot for insurance.

i've been very happy with my state farm insurance. when i was calling around when i got my wagon, they quoted me the lowest rates out of all the places i called (geico, progressive, mercury, allstate, + others). their agents are really friendly and helpful.

but then again, our family has been with the agent for 20+ years. he keeps my car's residence at my parents' place in cupertino to keep my rates down (on top of several other discounts).

in 03/04 they definately had an effect on insurance but i think theres a new law or standard that made it entirely based on your driving record rather than on ur zip.

Bump!!
This is some really good information. I was just able to reduce our rates by $140/mo on Esurance by redoing the coverages. I dropped the medical payments & uninsured property on the 2004, as well as up the liability to 250/500/100. I also increased the collision deductable to $1000. I'm very please that I'm now getting more for less!

Thanks Aaron for posting this very valuable information. You get a gold star!

Since we're on the subject of insurance, I need to shop around for homeowner's insurance and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? Currently I'm with Esurance for auto and am planning on getting a quote through them, but does anyone have any horror stories of whom to stay away from?

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY
DO NOT GO WITH TRAVELERS!!!!!!1!!11111!!!!!!

that place can burn in a firey crash while being infected with Ebola!

2 years from our claim date (almost to the day) and they JUST started repairs on the claim...only after we got a lawyer.

and i still have a sneakin' suspicion that they're gonna try to pull a fast one on us somehow during the remodel process.

You should just check with the state to see what the company you're interested in is rated at, per the lady that Pozzi quoted. That said, I'm very pleased with my renters insurance provider. I'm with State Farm Insurance at 555 Capitol Mall. It's in one of my favorite buildings downtown.

We were going to switch to Esurance for renters, but we decided to keep the policies seperate.

Is there any reason to keep the policies separate, or did you just stay with State Farm because you were happy with them?

I personally wanted to give both companies my business. Esurance is low maintence and State Farm is right across the street from my office. Plus I only deal with the annually through the mail.

There is usually a discount to have both policies through one company, but it doesn't offset the amount of money that I have to spend extra in each case.

normally you can get a better rate on both if you run them through the same place.
some places give deep discounts to get you to go with them for all your ins needs.

i know once we get this whole house thing resolved we're switching our homeowners to the same company we have our auto through cus we'll get like an additional 10% off our auto plus a lower home owners rate also.
