I guess it wasn't so bad (oil in IC) it just had some. When I pulled the catch can to paint it and clean it, it was 1/4 full at most.

I didn't have smoke out the exhaust, and the back of my hot side blade and housing were free from any oil (seal not gone).

Well I think I am getting JE Pistons and some new rings. I need to come up with some more cash. Hopefully I can find them for a good price. I was told today they are some really nice pieces. Hopefully I can sell my amp and sub setup to help with the funding. So then I would need the cyl wall re honed (sp?)?

wow, sounds like you have been busy!! I helped put a 6 speed into an 06 WRX today, so I have been tinkering too lol.

Well hell, while you are at it, throw in a set of good bearings...and maybe a Cosworth oil pump

Still undecided about new pistons and rings. I would have to have $160 more head work done for new pistons, then pay for rebore of the cly walls and still buy new rings and pistons. I am waiting on a quote from a shop, we will see what they can do for me. That is kinda going to be the deciding factor. It's like a grand of more stuff

Heads just went to S&H for testing, tanking, and resurfacing, should have them back Mon or Tues.

You already know my opinion...since you are going bigger turbo with 50k already on the motor, a possible meth kit in the future, it would be cheaper to do it now than later, and a lot less hastle.

But money oh money, if it wasn't for you, I would have my damn 6 speed and GT30 kit

Hey, was it your right mud guard (inner fender, whatever) that you tore out on the Mattole road? I destroyed mine as well,
and I was thinking MAYBE you destroyed a different part than I did. I only melted the front piece. Hmm, we probably have different ones anyway, since we have different bumpers.

money money money......

I have already over spent with the new tarby snd extra mounts, that was $1300 more than I had planned on for this project... It happens though.

I will wait to see what the quote on the pistons and rings are before I decide. I want to do it know, believe me. It is more "unknown territory" and work but if I can swing it I will try. It's just more down time and it's hard rebuilding a motor by yourself. Oh how I wish I had a mechanic to check me off as I go through the different stages. If I do do the rings and pistons that will bring the total to like over 3k that's doing all my own labor.

meh, you are doing great. Keep doing your research, and take your time. The factory service manual helps a ton too.

But tell me that you did not suspect this would become a larger/more expensive project, and I will call BS :P

Happy B-day!!

<< clock says 11:52

I swapped out my intercooler and intake today...running a stock cobb vf39 map Not going to romp on it of course, but just driving around town I can feel the spool and response difference. The APS 65mm intake is advertised as the same size as stock, so it "should" not cause any MAF issues, at least not out of boost. Even so, I need to get a basemap for my 650cc injectors before putting them in.

I think I have to get that GT30 with a giant topmount....or at least a custom fabed reverse manifold, v mount setup or something similar.

Haha thanks man. GT30 huh, rotated monster? I say go for it with you FMIC, WAY less heat soak.

When you get the time I still want to pick up that thermostat from ya. Stop by sometime when you are in town homie.

Ya, I just don't think the ebay front mount is efficient enough for the GT30, but we shall see. Whatever I do, it will involve a bunch of ceramic coating and heatshielding, and MAYBE some heatwrap action. It is also possible I will put effort into a reversed manifold setup.

At this point, I am considering some stock location turbos. I just dont need a hoard of top end, but I want to keep quick spool...I am talking under 3500 RPMS. I recently saw a 20g setup with really quick spool on a topmount....it was pretty impressive.

So ya, in the end, I am in the same place lol...except now I need a tune.

Well the machine shop called today about the heads and just to call them back.... Must be bad, he didn't say "they are ready come and get them". Just to call him back. I have a bad feeling about this.

Well no use worrying, I will call first thing in the morning how bad/god the heads are.

I am thinking crack...
